Will Bloggers Make Good Money Online in 2009?

Last year may not be good for us in terms of economy, as well as for some money making online individuals. According to Darren Rowse' latest poll on his Problogger blog, there are more bloggers who are not making good money from their blogs than those who do. Although the results may not be accurate, it can be true.

But I think this is not because of the bad economy, to think that the same results appeared on his polls for the last 2 years. Moreover, there are part time bloggers and teenage kids who are making it big. Therefore, I can conclude that personality is not also the concern. It is the wrong strategies that caused them to fail. Here are my observations.

They are very sociable, as they leave comments on each others blogs even not belonging to the same niche. They entertain each other instead of finding a forum that can really help them.

They have tons of affiliate widgets on their sidebars, but they don't buy the products. They don't even make a review about them. They simply increase their subscribers, instead of finding potential buyers.

They use Adsense, but their blogs are very clean because they feel ads are annoying their readers. They also don't care if their niche is not popular, and they just choose whatever they want.

They are contented with their high PR but not worried about SERP. They create backlinks from everywhere because they think it is the best way to make it on top of the search engine pages.

Finally, they spend a lot of time in making content but spend less in promoting their blogs. Their traffic may be high but not from the targeted ones.

To sum them up, they are not using the two most important words in Internet marketing - relevant connection.

Now, do you think these kinds of bloggers will make good money online in 2009? I don't think so, not unless they wake up and change their techniques.

Good money can be 10 $ - 10 000 $ depends on what you think are good money.

    For me ... i will be content with 500 $ a mounth. For someone it is 50 000 $.

Anyway my answer would be :

Those who really want will make money, the rest WILL DIE FROM HUNGER (quote - Ahmed the dead terrorist : "That was dark, wasn't it ?")

Actually, as the blogging topic is heating up, most users just think by creating a blog they will earn money, so you will find any one with an internet connection having a blog, some of them even dont care about how they can generate revenue from it.

So I do believe that more are NOT making money.

Tho this economy crisis, 2008 was the best year for me, online I mean, made the most out of it

I am glad you made it. And yes, most bloggers these days are not thinking about long term plans.

Well, it depends on the bloggers themselves.

A well planned venture can be made profitable, if you put proper efforts and devote some time to it. Blogs and bloggers are growing exponentially, and thus the competition is becoming more intense.

I'm pretty sure if someone gives it his all, he will make it. Doesn't matter if it 2009, 2010 or 2011. And recession may slow down the things, but I'm sure it can't stop everything. Everyone moves along.

The points you mentioned hit it on the head. No matter what, I've seen a LOT of bloggers portraying an image that they make quite a lot of money online, but are actually following wrong techniques.

I just loved the SERP and PR one. Good post!

I believe most bloggers are confused with these two terms. In most forums that I belong, the former is being less talked about not realizing how important it is.

But everybody seem to be excited when the big G releases updates about PR. In the end, the same bloggers are wondering why they have low traffic.

I dunno... WordPress blogs can be configured to look like non-WordPress blogs.
I strongly doubt that Google will discriminate against all WP-powered blogs.

What Google will most likely deindex are spammer WordPress Mu blogs, or regular
WP blogs that contain spammy links (hidden or otherwise).

I think that's a better idea, Manuel. I even think that blogs will boom this year. More people are getting interested to learn how to make money online these days.

Nice to see you here, by the way.

I have to agree, the ones that WANT to make money and are out to make sure it happens will do just fine. The ones who want to throw shit at the fan on their blogs and try to make money, they aren't going to make anything, or pennies in comparison to those that really try.

I think that if people are looking to get rich off their blog then they will more often than not be highly disappointed. If you want to make additional income via a blog, that's one thing and very doable. By improving the rankings of your blog, pitching affiliate products, and signing up for a pay per post type of service, you can definitely supplement your income - but manage your expectations.
