Using twitter to generate traffic

Hi all,

I am learning everything about affiliate marketing here. Now, i am trying out twitter. My question is,
Do I just go out there follow enough people and get enough followers in my niche and then tweet affiliate links? Will this convert?

If you just tweet links people will not bite nearly as much. It's best to post lots of relevant content to your niche as well and then disguise your affiliate links amongst those. There are so many people spamming the hell out of twitter everyday that people just ignore links if that's all you post.

You need to give value and build a relationship with people before you start trying to sell to them. This applies to all forms of marketing, not just Twitter and Facebook.

You need to develop credibility among your followers and readers before you can offer them some products. REAL people don't follow just everyone and they know about spam links. Try to build some reputation around and offer quality to your followers.

Building traffic from Twitter is pretty straight forward - build up your followers and post links. You'll get traffic alright, but none of it will convert. As has been mentioned in this thread, you need to build credibility, and there aren't any shortcuts to that.

In anything social you'll need to build some rapport with your followers or friends before sending them to offers and products. Think of it kinda like an email campaign. they hit with content-content-content-offer-content-offer blah blah. You want to show your users you know what your talking about before they'll send you some money. Same as anywhere even here on the forums. You provide content in the form of useful post and gain trust for wso launch. all the same just different platform.

I dont have much success on promoting with twitter but I heard others success stories though. Im not with them. I think this twitter strategy takes longer time than just building a facebook page and mingle with my likers.

Anyway its still your choice. But for me no twitter.

Twitter and twitfest is such a spam fest these days, you dont know what peole are tweeting.

Even celebrities get paid huge amounts just to tweet stuff, do you think they care what they are tweeting about. NO someone just pays them to do it. LOL.

i am now waiting for those death of twitter threads to start showing up. lol.

People on twitter are not really in the buying mindset. You are better of promoting some cpa email / zip submits. But even those must not look like spam (because every newbie and their mom is promoting those on twitter).

This is only my personal experience though.

consider this. Twitter traffic converts worse than facebook traffic. Facebook traffic converts far less than adwords (the standard IMHO).

    Adwords : 3%-5%
    Facebook: 0.25%
    Twitter: 0.01%

Those are my personal numbers. I have almost 20k followers on Twitter, all 100% targeted followers for my niche. The only way it works is I send out tweets every 20 mins or so, so the volume is high.

What I find to be successful is tweet maybe two or three links per day between which I interact with my followers on casual bases. That way don't get tired of my ads.
This is a great way of putting it. As with any new channel for traffic there is going to be a lot of trial and error, so you have to have an extremely solid plan strictly for twitter if you are running affiliate marketing. Most offers will have restrictions on search, email, etc as everyone is familiar with. Mobile restrictions are becoming regular, twitter will soon follow suit in terms of affiliate marketing restrictions if it becomes too flush/saturated with spam, bogus offers, etc...

Yes you can do it... but try Facebook too. Or create website with unique and original content in it. Just don't focus on Twitter. You can do a lot of things anywhere. Just be resourceful... broaden your exploration.

I got about twelve thousand followers from Twiends. I find that if I tweet helpful articles related to building traffic, all through the day, I can get thousands of views a day, perhaps some of them are the same people, clicking on different links. My site aims to get people to sign up for scheduled tweets to my followers, and I put most of the money back into getting more. There are sites which let you swap tweets to other people's accounts, if you tweet their link, but I think the best way is sharing one account, and the expense of growing it.

Twitter doesn't seem to convert well to me. Most people find that either they don't want to sell to their family/friends or they are only followed by other businesses rather than real people.

For the last few years twitter has been all the rage for small offline businesses but as I said to them if your prepared to spend the same time on other strategies you'll find out they work much better.

    Good-luck,

    Sam

It is surprising to note that conversion rate on twitter is so low . I wonder how somebody like kpybus tweet every 20 minutes. It is too much to do. I do it only twice or thrice in a day.

I'll report for spam any Twitter user who tweets me out of the blue with a link, most of the time. I'll check their timeline to see if that's all they do. Which generally, it is. Bam, reported for Spam. Even if it's not all they do, but scattered down their timeline is the same thing, with a similar or reworded tweet to another random user, Reported.

You've got care about and build your followers slowly over time. It's not much different than a List. Cut the ones who will never buy, don't care, or are following you for the wrong reasons, talk to the real people and the ones who really do have an interest.

It's easy to forget there's real people on the other end of these things, but the sooner you remember it, the better your traffic will be.

I would suggest alot of followers are needed before you attempt to try and sell things to them. What you do need to develop is some credibility, so that your followers are interacting with you in "the big conversation" and clicking your links that you've posted (value links not affiliate)

It will take some time to gain such credibility, maybe a month? IF you keep up with Twitter, but it has huge potential as a marketing tool so dont underestimate it.

there are many websites which offer Twitter followers but thats a scam as the Followers are just BOTS. If you want to deal in affiliate marketing you need to have real followers. I suggest you to make multiple accounts and post 15 to 20 posts daily on general discussion topics, celeb news, this helps gaining people attention and once your on the road you will get good amount of Twitter Followers. Then you can Tweet your Links and enjoy Hits daily.

If you go down the pub where you know a few people but not everyone....would you walk in and go "here buy my ****!"?

That is what most people do on Twitter then bitch and moan it doesnt work....Twitter works if you use it in the way it was supposed to be used...there are no shortcuts for social media...you need to be there in person....

What you do is engage in a conversation and get to know people. From there you build relationships which leads somewhere...

That is the mentality you need on Twitter...auto follower mean nothing....auto posting crap links from twitterfeed get you unfollowed....

Use the search function and find people that need your help and engage with them...

And if you really need your flollowers to follow you to your website .. you need to create credibility amongst your fans, provide them the relevant information and make your profile attractive and informative.

Twitter is just a bunch of untargeted traffic that does not convert when used to just post affiliate links like that. Especially if you just follow any and all of the spam bots that you come across, usually by automated methods. Then you're just a bunch of spam bots spamming other spam bots.

The best way to use Twitter or any other social network is to be social and network with those in your niche.

My suggestion is to find the most influentual people in your niche and follow them, have a background relevant to your niche and make it look inviting. Sign up to google alerts for things that are relevant to your niche and whenever something of interest shows up in G alerts, then post it. If you are writing a blog (which i strongly suggest) then post every update on to twitter. Another good thing is to reply to tweets, especially if you are following people with thousands of followers, if you grab their attention and they follow you, then there is potential for you to gain all of their followers, all it takes is for them to retweet something of yours and you could hit the jackpot.

    i hope i helped

Do some research first and get to know what Twitter is really all about before you start posting on your own. Learn how to communicate effectively on Twitter and don't spam the site for you won't get any result from spamming.

I have to admit I struggle with Twitter a bit.

Then again I think I have a bit of a problem in my own head about it. Trying to find something half sensible to say in less than 140 characters to people that I basically know nothing about just doesn't fit to me.

Anyway after battling on with it over the last 18 months, I am becoming convinced, that a huge number of people on Twitter are more interested in having their own say, rather than being bothered to read what anyone else writes.

Man we're all sick of those affiliate links on Twitter aren't we and the truth is that they do not convert very well, however they do convert, it's just a numbers game.

I believe the best strategy however is to build good relationships with the people who you are following and this involves much more than just posting a link.

Your twitter profile needs to reflect your personality and be of interest to other people. If you are interesting and people like your tweets, then you can build relationships with them, earn their trust and sell to them.

From personal experience I find it is much better to get people to visit your blog, sign up to your list and then market to them, I think this strategy works much better

    Hi there,

I feel Twitter is similar to Facebook in terms of marketing.

You need to build "trust". Many people have different methods, or techniques. But think about it, would you rather buy a product promoted by a stranger, or a product promoted by someone you know or trust?

    Thanks!

Twitter is only helping me become known because all sites use twitter for many reasons – everyone has a twitter account.

I believe that the only ones making money at Twitter are those who spend time with it, have automatic tools, and approach their clients without waiting for them. This is the best advantage at Twitter: you can simply approach your clients, even if they are not following you. I hate this tactic and I don’t use it, but many people are using it, and I think that they must be the successful ones.

I’m not saying that it is unethical to approach your clients, but it’s not my style. I hate aggressive marketing.

However, those who feel comfortable with this style are surely making money, getting traffic, etc.

So many people say using twitter to build your list! well I somewhat agree and disagree. I think what people are doing is following as much people in your niche as possible. Well it is not wrong but sometimes people just follow them for the sake of building as many follow/followers as possible.. but in fact the truth is you have to interact with them and gain their trust to make them trust you.
