One alternative commonly used to host subscription sites' video files is Amazon AWS S3 and Cloud service, the pay by usage fee for S3 data transfer is about $0.18 per gig., the optional cloud spreads copies to multiple locations for optimal speed.

I agree with the above. I use Amazon S3. It is real cheap, very dependable, and scalable.

Do you have to be a webmaster expert to use amazon cloud services? I hear they get complex at times to configure.

      Andy,
I agree with the others in recommending S3. You can check out the following calculator - you can use it to get an estimate of your costs.

So how much money would it cost If I was using 1 tb a month?
theorbital - there are various programs/browser plugins/etc, both paid and available for free, to manage your S3 accounts. They make it easy to upload and do other things. There are simple scripts available as well to protect the information. While its not 'push button' simple, if you can use a tool like filezilla or any ftp program then you have nothing to fear.

      Good luck folks.

Is it saying 14Cents per gigabyte so 1 tb is $140 a month? If this is true this is too much and I dont need that much memory. I would only need to start with 20 GB or so and upgrade the storage when the time demands it. Isn't there a cheaper plan? I'm only looking to spend around $50-70 a month on a file server to start.

I really agree with everyone else that using Amazon S3 is a great and economical way to host a large number of files with the ability to have a wide distribution using cloud services.

However, I really think you should take a moment or two to learn the right way to use Amazon and other cloud services so folks don't take advantage of you. I have a WSO (see below) that has details about just how thieves are taking advantage of folks through cloud services such as amazon s3 and even on their own web sites. For the currently low price around $7 it is literally a steal...

How much storage do you get for $7 a month because looking at the pricing page it looks like they start at 1tb for 14 cents a gb. I don't see storage thats lower than 1 tb?
