Please, help. Porn pages linked to my site what to do?

I have one of my web page hosted at hostgator. I can see in Control Panel statistics data about Links from an external page (other web sites except search engines). Many of these backlinks coming from Rusia porn pages and other crap. I have never made such backlinks to my page. I think it is job of some competitor to heart my page rank. My question is how to avoid such tactics or how to delete these bad reputation backlinks?
Thank for your help.

If its just a classic regular web page and its appearing in your stats, depending on your page rank the porn site could merely be hot linking to a portion of your site image, file, or other this is called Bandwidth theft, contact your Hosting provider. There are several tools to prevent this.
However depending on what is happening, there are a myriad of factors that create this. SQL injections, spam, etc. Can you be more specific on where the links are showing up? As far as the link to, really nothing you can do about it..

Well, first you're going to have to send me the links to the porn pages so that
I can check them out. That way I can give you a better answer on how to
    solve the problem.

Ur,Um, It might take me a while to go through it...lol

Seriously, The links into you site won't hurt you as long as you don't link
back to them. Basically, if any of the sites linked to you have Page Rank
then all that will happen is you'll get link juice from them which could help
your PR. I wouldn't worry about them. Just continue with your original
        game plan.

You'll never hear from him again. He's busy.

But you should check out the comments on your blog. Delete them if you have a bunch of spam porn comments.

Then install wp spamfree or some other spam filter for your blog.

If they're not in the comments, I don't know why they would be linking to you.

        Edit: Oh yeah, referrer spam

I am confused, because in many SEO manuals gurus are telling that bad reputation pages or zero PR backlinks coming to your site can hurt your page rank but if it is really true it will be very easy for competitors to fight such way. My problems start when I got with my site on first page of Yahoo and Bing and second page on Google with some keywords.

PageRank has to do with the relevance of the topical content on your page when compared against other pages on the web about the same topic. It has less to do with ranking factors then what's been preached by many SEO guru's. Yes some measure is calculated when looking the PageRank of incoming links but the major factor is the on page criteria.

The backlinks pointing at his site will just get ignored by Google and no penalty will be given towards ranking factor. This is clearly stated all over the web just Google it.

If linking to porn sites could damage my competition I'd create porn sites and link to my competition, think about that for a moment.

As mentioned by another poster, you need to find out if the offending sites are hot linking to your site images, etc. etc. You can disable this in your hosting control panel, or just contact your hosting company to help you out with that matter.

if having this sites linking to you bothers you, you can do a simple thing called IP Deny located in your hosting account's cpanel where you can block domains and IP addresses from accessing your site.

You can also set up Hotlink Protection in your cpanel as well, so that no one can hotlink to your images, your pdf's etc.

Both those tools are invaluable and are very easy to use.

            good luck!

            SingleShooter,

It is exactly as Rus & Suzanne said.

Don't worry too much, if you're not linking back to them.

I have all sorts of irrelevant sites ( even porn ) linking to mine. Some of those sites are autoblogs, picking up text and linking my URLs back. Doesn't affect anything except that they do bring some traffic.

The things that I really care about are security against hijackers, hackers, spam comments and malicious codes in spam comments.

              re hostgator awstats:
Links from an external page (other web sites except search engines)

I have the same ugly sites in my stats.

It's referrer spam not actual links to your site. Made with some sort of bots.

They do it in hopes that either:

              1. you'll publish referrers somewhere on your site, so publicly linking to their site, or

              2. you'll see the links in your stats and visit their site yourself (to see what pages are linking to you).

do a search engine search on: how to block referrer spam
              you'll find lots of info.

              regards Hans

Install Askimet anti- spam comment blocker for WP!

Then moderate your comments, if they don't look relevant it legit....trash them. I had a comment spammer post 232 spam comments in less than a week, once I installed Askimet WP plug-in had no problems.

I don't understand why people are talking about comments? It's obvious OP isn't running a blog and it's a link from an external pornsite that he isn't related to.

Hey singleshooter, probably not much you can do about the links. The most important thing to do is build quality links to your site. If you have lots of quality links and a few of these questionable links out there, you probably have nothing to worry about.

Sounds like referrer spam to me. People run websites through a bot that makes it seem like they're linking to you with the hope that you will visit their page and the possibility that they may get a backlink by being referenced on your traffic log.

If they are indeed actual backlinks you cannot remove them unless Google did this for you - which they won't . You just need to start build quality links to 'overwrite' them eventually.

Ok, Guess I am late to the party, but just to let you know. If you read google webmasters guidelines [most of us never do], there it is written that Google doesnt penalize websites that have links coming from porn or junk sites coz website owners do not have a control over which site is linking to them.. So stop worrying about those spammy links.
Just do ur on page seo good and try to get some good backlinks via article submission, forum profiles and other off page submissions.

Actually, back links do play a role, as indicated here: Link schemes - Webmaster Tools Help, where it says, "Your site's ranking in Google search results is partly based on analysis of those sites that link to you." etc. etc...

My guess is that one of two things is happening. The sites are linking to you in hopes that you will link back. In that case, you have nothing to worry about. Back links can't hurt you.

Linking to a porn site can hurt you. Getting an inbound link can't.

The other thing that may be going on -- and I know this because it happened to me -- is that they have hacked into your site and are linking to the porn they have put on your site.

If you notice a bunch of pages on your site that you didn't create or graphic images you didn't upload *then* you need to start taking action. Otherwise, don't sweat it.

You can view the published pages on your site using your control panel or FTP program.

This happened to 1 of my sites last year, checking for extra pages he didn't create might not help as with me they didn't create extra pages they dropped a file on site called .log everthing was in that file.

Only way to find if they have is to go through your files in Cpanel and see if there are any you didn't upload.

Have you noticed a bandwidth usage increase as this is a sign of them doing this, they got greedy with mine and blew it thats how i found out what they were doing.

It was the russians that did this to me.

Just like most others have said - getting inbound links from pornographic/sketchy sites can not hurt you in terms of PR or serp ranking. If this was the case, competitors would exploit the penalty.

    Hi singleshooter

First - I read that your site is a classic website built, that is it has to be in HTML or PHP code, and not a WP or Joomla one, hence do not worry

What happens most of the time is that when you make a website then you are enthusiastic to market it and monetize it for which lot of times when we visit different kind of blogs and forums we post our website link, this helps those other guys to have a look on what we have and post there link, in actual your site built should be a good one with lot of contents and SEO rich and that is the reason they are attracted

So what you need to do is go to htaccess and make all links a no follow link.

while defining your robots.txt page make sure you guide the bots to not to read those links at all.

Keep a check into your back links and with the help of a developer just remove them

You can also put a IP Tracker in your website to make sure you have all IP recorded so that in case something bad happens (which will not) you can trace down the IP

If you have any other queries feel free to ask me and I would be grateful to reply you back with my answers

    Thanks
    Wil Jep

      Hi,
I post in that old thread because my problem is pretty similar except that:

      - I see links from external page traffic from many .ru domain names, not only porn, only about 50% is porn, the rest seems legit websites

      - When I go to the referrer pages I never see link to my site. I follow the url from Awstats "Links from an external page" and I see the front page, and no link to me on there.

      - They are all .ru domains but hosted on varisous Ips, different countries (Germany Holland Estonia but mainly Ukraine and Russia...) and different servers
But they are all .RU domains...

I do not know if it is due to
      - websites being hacked and used as platform to try to hack mine
      - or if it is some kind of dns or bandwidth hijack...
      - or it could just be some spam to make me visit their website as it is proposed earlier in this forum...

My website is Joomla by the way.

      So I have 2 questions:

Is there a tool with CSF or Cpanel to block all traffic coming from .ru extensions? (Country block won't work since these urls seem to be hosted in various countries)

How to find out what they are really doing?

This things happened to me before with my blogs and I simply disavow the links in my google webmasters accounts to avoid any penalties. You may also disavow the links and also contact the webmasters to simply remove the links.

Find the contact details of the website owner and ask him to remove the link or get rid of the domain and start all over.
