Dream Run Leads To Dilemma

8k Spend.
14.5k Revenue in 13 days.

Around day 7 the network let me know my offer wasn't converting as well as hoped for the advertiser so my AM recommended me to switch to another offer. I generated around 3k for that offer. The problem that has occured now a month later is the 3k I generated the pixel was not configured correctly on the network end, it should have scrubbed emails that had been submitted before. Therefore about $900 dollars should not have been generated. The network has decided to cut their margin to help meet in the middle meaning I take a cut of $450. The network admits it was a configuration issue at their end. This was via a phone conversation.

The network is highly respected and I believe it was an honest mistake.

My Aff Manager has noted I will get higher payouts on other offers than the normal to help make up for the mistake.

Anyone have any thoughts on this.. suck it up and let them take the $ from me? Pay day is tomorrow, they will take the $460 out if I don't reply.

Tell them you're not happy and demand a massive cut on your next campaign.

I would just run with it and pay them the money because it then gives you a nice bargaining chip to use in the future - if you ever need it.

It's always good to have other people owe you favors, especially an affiliate network.

Yeah I agree. I guess if it was my last campaign I was ever to run on the network it would be different. I will take the cut, and use this to move forward more aggressively with my new campaigns.

      Thanks WillR

Exactly. If it were your last pay check OR you were relying on the money to live then I would definitely ask for it and think you are well within your right to do so. But if you continue to work with these guys then just look at it as a business expense - you would only end up with a percentage of that money after tax anyway. So better to bite the bullet and you could then negotiate a better payout on a future offer that is doing well for you and make multiples of that money.

Agreed, as it's one of the top networks and they have paid me a lot more than this, I think it's best to roll with the punches, use this as a motivator to get higher payouts and really make a big profit. There is nothing seedy about it from the network, they have been up front about it, they know it was a mistake on their end. Thanks for the input.

Agreed once the tax man is finished for the last financial year here, $450 is going to look like small change. You have helped me work out how I should act on this, definitely build an even longer out look to my relationship with my network. Cheers.

Mistakes do happen. As an affiliate manager at my job sometimes things just happen no matter how hard you try to prevent such occurrences. I would say the network is trying to make good on your mistake by offering you a higher percentage for your future campaigns. That alone may more that surpass your small loss here.

Seems like your best choice would be to take the loss, claim it as an expense and keep riding into the sunset. Problems always suck when money is involved, so hopefully you guys can come to an amicable solution.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

since it is a mistake, take the loss and wait for a better bargain in future.

I would leave the 460$ to them. Although I must say 900$ in scrubbed emails are high. Did you promote zip/email submit offers?

If I am understanding you right, you didn't earn that money really. But the affiliate manager is going to let you have half of it anyway. I know it sucks, but at least you are going to get $450 of it, plus the other money you earned. Not a bad weeks earnings in my mind.

Congratulations, keep it up. And squeeze them for your next campaign.:p
