Why isn't my domain selling?

Good morning folks!

I'm fairly new to the forum and to flipping domains. While I've been building web pages for 14+ years professionaly I thought I would try my hand at a few solid domains and see what happens.

A few months ago Nintendo announced the new Wii U, the next generation Wii system. I did some google keyword searches to find what is visited the most for the original Wii system and then starting plugging in those domains to see what was available.

One of the names open at the time was www[dot]mariobroswiiu[dot]com. The official domain for the Wii game is www[dot]mariobroswii[dot]com so I thought this would be a pretty solid domain name. "Mario Bros Wii" has 246,000 searches a month so this seemed like a no-brainer.

I listed the domain in Fliippa based on advice from this forum with a fairly low opening bid of $99, and a buyout of $9,999 as I have no clue what something like this could bring.

At this point in time I have receive 0 bids, 24 views and only 1 person watching. I'm hoping some of you domain flipping experts can give me an idea why this domain is not taking off. I'm not looking to get rich off one domain, but I did figure a $500-$1000 sell price.

Thanks in advance!

I think some people just do not realize how much they need to plan ahead. Basically since the wiiu isn't on their radars yet they don't see the value. That's what I think. But also do you have any concerns that mariobroswiiu.com is infringing on some trademarks?

People don't want to buy one domain name to get a lawsuit. Using a trademark (or 2...?) you don't own... is asking for trouble. Sorry to know you had so high hopes for this one, but live and learn.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

Yep. Was just about to say the same thing. the domain decision was not good. No savvy site buyer wants to pay out good cash for a site built on someone elses trademark and like you said the OP combined two such trademarks

Looks like you are using a trade name that is inviting lawsuits. No one will touch that with a ten foot pole. Guess who is the 1 person watching?

Stay away from TM domains! Countless people make this mistake, including me in the beginning as well. It's just not worth registering a domain with trademarked terms. That is why it was available to register, and that is why no one wants to buy it as well.

No one's going to buy that domain. It's blatant trademark infringement.

I appreciate the responses. Does anyone have a good link that talks about what would infringe on a trademark like you state, and what does not?

As an example I own several review sites such as www[dot]mariobroswiiureviews[dot]com (not really, just an example), and those do not seem to be an issue. Do you consider these to be an issue as well?

Anytime you use their trademark it is an infringement. You can lose the domain in a UDRP proceding...or a lawsuit. The term is called cybersquatting.....possible fine $100,000.

OK, more importantly how do I get rid of it without a $100,000 fine? And a few others.

Wow I did not know that at all. I own a site sengokubasara.com which is pretty popular anime site. Could I be in for the same trouble should I decide to sell later on down the line? Their are games, anime, and toys associated with this series.

Yeah, this puts me in a bind. I own a few others I thought would bring a LOT more and a few I wanted to build as more of a community/information site such as www[dot]microsoftwebapps[dot]com.

On a side note, Flippa is not a great place to sell domains (I personally haven't had much luck there)

Wow, you may want to take a few basic business law classes or research this topic more in this forum or any business forum before pursuing a career in this business.

You are just advertising to be sued.

You might be able to get that domain off at dp or something who knows. I've seen a lot of things being pushed there that would not fly on flippa.

Released all the domains I had with trademarked names in them. Thanks again!

A lot of people aren't going to invest in a domain that infringes on a trademark. Why buy a domain that can get a cease and desist letter from an attorney at any time?

if you were the op, and you wanted this domain, what would you choose that would not infringe trademarks?

i mean he wants to seo and have wii u content, what kind of domain is he going to buy? any examples?

just curious as interested in doing something with domains in the near future.

    kindest regards

Flippa isn't the best place to sell domains alone. If you had an established website for that domain then I think you would get much more views and a few bids.

But all in all, the domain is a trademark and you could be sued... which is why most people wouldn't even bother bidding for that domain.
