Hi warriors.

I just launched a new site and I've been thinking about giving out a free ebook in exchange for the visitors name and email.

I'm completely new to list buildning.

What do I need to do?

How does it work?

Is it free or paid service/software?

I want visitors to be able to download my ebook from a sidebar on my site.

All advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you're not in the 'internet marketing' or 'make money' niche you can check out MailChimp. It's free for up to 2,000 subscribers.

Offering some kind of incentive works great- like you said an ebook. Also make sure the content on your site is top notch as well. People need to like you to want to receive emails from you.

How it works is you create your free offer, then you create the sign up form. Above the form you should have an image or text that says "Download Name of Ebook for Free! Just fill in your details below" Also include a short privacy statement like "I'll never share or sell your email address".

Then you have an auto-responder set up that sends them the ebook. You can then send them emails whenever you want to build the relationship, promote your offers, etc.

I started with Mailchimp and it is free but I found I needed to move to Awber within a short period of time as I needed more functionality. The issue I faced was all my subscribers needed to re-opt in and as a result I lost a bunch. If I were to do it again, I would have opted for Aweber off the bat.

    Hi Marvon,

If you are going to build a long term relationship with your list, there are 2 most important things you need to remember:

    1. Providing good and valuable content to your list.
    2. Make sure that your email delivery rate to your list is high. Currently, I have use aweber as my autoresponder and it has yet to disappoint me.

    Hope it helps.
