How Many Amazon Affiliate Are Using Out of State Addresses?

I know there are a ton of active threads on this subject at the moment. But as a former California Affiliate of the Amazon program, I was curious how many people are still residing in a cancelled state but using either an out of state business entity or just an out of state address to conduct business. I have a few friends who have offered to let me use their address but I'm too worried about the consequences associated with it if they find out I've never left CA (especially because I still work full-time there). The possible penalties have been discussed over and over, I'm more curious about the number of Warriors who are working around this stupid piece of legislature.

How is it possible for Amazon to find out if you are not actually living in CA? I am living in CA and got my account canned so I open a new account and put my address to NE (Where I went to college). So far so good.

I thought that you could create a business entity that is registered in another state which would enable you to continue using Amazon affiliate program.

Many of the top affiliates of the 10,000 or so in California saw this coming months ago, and incorporated (LLC) in one of a dozen non-nexus states. This is the best option, second to moving. Anything of this sort of thing requires competent legal advice.

Thanks for your responses. I'm prepared to prove residency if that's the direction I plan on taking. However, I don't make a significant income from Amzn yet. Once that becomes a reality I think I'll go the LLC route. Just my personal move, definitely don't recommend doing anything you aren't comfortable with before consulting a lawyer..

There is a lot of conflicting information out there. It's hard to know what is true. I've heard lots of people say you may actually have to be able to prove you live in a state by providing electric bills etc. and that just an LLC is no good.

If you're not prepared to do it right (through competent legal consultation), then perhaps consider other options. For example other affiliate programs with similar products are not affected by the nexus issue such as Walmart, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Linkshare, Shareasale, etc. Basically, ignore what you "heard" or read in these threads. Most of the "advice" here is a minefield. You are the one responsible for the consequences.

Just use Skimlinks.com- the profit is slightly reduced (esp if you were consistently earning 8%) but there are no legal troubles and it is a really simple solution.

I have been using them for a few weeks and my earnings are fairly consistent with what I was earning prior to Amazon closing my account.

When I moved from NC to CA they requested I send them confirmation of living here (either rental agreement or utility bill). They didn't ask for it until a few weeks after I made the change. Just a heads up! I guess you could register a corp in another state and use a mailing address there? But I'm not a legal expert by any means, so who knows!
