I just upgraded my wp site to 3.2.1 and I have had nothing but frustration since. I'm unable to access the admin panel etc Has anyone else had problems with this upgrade? I would be interested in hearing of other problems, concerns, fixes, etc.

Did you upgrade from 3.2 or an earlier version? 3.2 had some issues with plugins that would make the admin panel menu on the left go away.

Disable some of your plugins and you should be ok.

Thanks, but the drop down toggle for plugin's doesn't work. It says its loading and has been for two days. None of the drop down toggles work on any of the sites i've upgraded. All seem frozen and I don't know what to do.

Does yourdomain.com/wp-admin/plugins.php load? If it loads then you should be able to disable the plugin or even upgrade them to latest version (which might include the fix as well).

        Cheers.

          Hi again Stew,

I forgot to tell you this.

You can resolve your issue by re-uploading all files and folders using FTP.
But please be aware of 1 point.

Usually WP has 3 major folders and several root level files.

          The WP folders are : "wp-admin", "wp-includes" and "wp-content".

Upload all files and folder EXCEPT the folder called "wp-content". This folder holds all of your personal customization, pics and plugins. So don't overwrite it. Leave it alone.

Doing this will not affect your wp-config file and database. But as a precaution, WP always encourages you to back up your database.

After uploading, you can then get your dashboard live again.

In case you cannot get it live, then the plugins are causing you the problem.

Use the FTP again to enter your server. Go to folder "wp-content" and open the subfolder "plugins". Delete the plugins.

That should be able to make your dashboard live again. Gradually Add your plugins one-by-one and activate one-by-one.

You'll be able to find the culprit plugin or the problem may even disappear.

          Hope this helps.

I'm so glad to find this forum. I'm going bonkers w/ my WP blog since upgrading to 3.2.1 last week. I've done as the above posts suggested and disabled all plugins, but nothing changed. Still mega problems. As someone said above, none of the Nav Bar buttons have drop down menus. Even when I can get to the text area for posting and type in text, it does not show, tho in Preview it does. Also, there is only one toolbar above the text area, for html, but not for visual. There is also no way to Logout of the admin panel. There is a word 'Howdy' in the upper right corner that appears to be linked, but it does nothing.

Is there a way to go back to 3.2 or whatever the previous version was? Anyone with any other ideas? I haven't been able to work on my blog since last week.

You mean you have tried FTP and it won't work?

Be sure to backup before an update. I've heard you should also use a child theme to guard against update troubles.

The issue has to do with your plugins. Specifically any multi-use plugins. Other regular plugins may have issues as well.

Disable all your plugins & then upgrade.

When you cannot handle themes and plugins from inside the admin panel - go FTP and delete them (you may want to download first, if you don't have them on the HD, although every normal user should!)

Deleting plugins via FTP - will deactivate them. (after that you can turn them on one by one to see which one was the culprit)

Deleting themes via FTP - will also deactivate them and WP will revert to the default.

Try deactivating all your plugins and see if gives a remedy..then reactivate each onea t a time to find out which plugin is causing the trouble

I have used the method described by Istvan below for a similar problem on an earlier version. I suggest you try it.

This should be a reminder to everyone who runs a Wordpress site to always backup your site before upgrading.

I tried to do the automatic update, but I couldn't get it to work. I've been trying since to figure out how to do it the right way manually. What does this update actually entail anyways? Because thus far it has been nothing but an annoyance.

      Hi,

Here are the release notes about the latest update : WordPress › WordPress 3.2.1

To update my WP blogs, I personally prefer using FTP rather than from the dashboard.

Which I did for this version 3.2.1 from an old blog having version 3.0.

This WP version Runs very smoothly.

Bugs always get worked out in the end though. I'll just be holding off on the upgrade for as long as I can and hoping that by the time I need to do it things will go a lot smoother than they did on my first attempt.
