My Mom says "IF you want a Credit Card, what are you gonna say when they ask if you work?"

Okay guys-

I want to become an internet marketer, and I've been pretty successful for a while now.

Well my Mother says get a real job. I tell her "A lot of people say people will doubt me, BUT this is a job. People on Warrior Forum ALWAYS says it's like a business, and it takes 1 year to actually be successful."

WELL, she always asks me what do I say if someone like a bank asks if I work.?

What would I say?
I work Online?
Im unemployed?

Just don't use a credit card. Easy. But you should be able to produce income statements, etc. like every other small business owner does. Tell them you own you're own business and show them the P&L.

I've talked to 7 figure marketers that have trouble getting mortgages because they "didn't have a real job"

It happens- the normal world thinks we just sleep 12 hours a day, work for 2 hours scamming people, then watch TV the rest of the day.

As PackerFan said just show proof of your income with PayPal, CLickbank, etc.

You tell them that you are self employed, and provide income proof. I wouldn't worry too much about credit at the moment. Make sure your business is doing very well first, don't take on potential debt that you cannot handle.

    Hi Rowebil,

I am from Singapore and i do have credit cards that allow me to apply without a job. i just say i am a student and i get $500 credit limit. I dont know if there is such a credit card service available in your country.

Otherwise a debit card with online purchasing features might work as well.

    Hope it helps.

If you pay taxes on your earnings, then you will be self-employed with a provable income.

I have paid taxes on all of my online earnings since circa 2003.

I was able to use that "income" from my "business" to walk into a new car dealership and drive out with a car that had 3.2 miles on the odometer, based on my signature alone.

You just have to register your online business, declare your earnings, pay taxes on all of it and then you're good to go. Being self employed as a full time internet marketer most definitely counts as a real job! So I would think atleast...

OP, you don't need a credit card.

I've bought houses & cars & have never had a credit card in my life.

I do have bank/Visa debit cards, & can't imagine being without them, still that's money already in the bank.

Do like tpw said, make it a real business with a paper trail (tax).

    Done,

Don't get a credit card at the moment, you don't need it. If you require something like it get a prepaid card but don't risk taken on debt that you can't afford at the moment. Wait until your business take's off and if you still require one get one but with a low limit.

If there is actually nothing as of the moment that will need you to use a personal credit card then why worry about it...these things have two faces on it, and it can be very easy to drown with debts and other charges incurred...be careful

    They won't. Here's what you'll do.

You will get the business licences necessary for your state, city, and local area.

You will then go to the bank and open a business bank account. They will ask to see your ID and your business licence. You will show these to them. You will put a few bucks in the account. And you will send all the money you make in IM to this account.

The bank does not care if you work. They care if you have money. They look at your bank account, they see money.

Other banks you can simply tell "I own my own business." They will ask about your ID and business licence. Done deal.

Don't you have an LLC or some other business structure? Aren't you an employee of your own company and pay yourself a salary from the business?

I'm the President of my holding corp, which owns several LLCs and partnership interests. I am paid a salary from that company, which has been in business for 12 years now. Pretty stable work history.

      Michael,

      That is perfect...

That is exactly how I have my business setup...

      The holding corp is key...

If you have a decent accountant or business adviser, then they should be able to help you get your business setup right the first time...

My advice would be the best thing for anyone new to the game (including myself, and am currently doing) is get a job, have a steady stream of income and learn and do internet marketing after work or in spare time. And best off all, any income earnt can be pumped into your projects.

Many new IM'ers dont make much money for months, sometime even years because there is a learning process and often a slow progress of steadily upscaling any success you have seen.

I've been at it for 3 months:

1st month was a lot of learning and research

2nd month was when I took action, researched and built a site around a particular keyword and micro niche and made 50 cents

This month I've made 3 sales so far for a commission of $25 (its an amazon site) and thats with my buyers keywords ranking between bottom of page 2 all the way to page 3 and 4. A decent amount of my traffic comes from the more information seeking keywords as I rank at #4 for one of them purely by accident! So I see that as not a bad start.

All I can do is build on that success, add more quality content, more product reviews, more off and on page SEO. I have seen my rankings dancing literally every hour for the past 2 weeks, 2 days ago they settled and my main keyword was at #22 (6000+ exacts), today its now at #20. I can see myself making some decent money from this site if I can get it at page one where all the money is, and im confident I can do that in time. The keywords are relatively competitive, but its steadily progressing nicely.

Anyway...the point is. For any newbie to internet marketing, you need patience and dedication to get to a point it becomes your full time income.

Last time I got a credit card or a loan... All the bank asked me for was the last 3 years of tax returns. Had no problem at all.

You don't need an LLC or inc. if you don't want to go through the trouble. You're currently a sole proprietor, and can legally operate that way without having to file any extra paperwork (just report all income as personal).
I had the same issue where people accused me of "being lazy" or not having a job. They shut up when I rolled up in a brand new Lincoln. LOL

Pay your taxes... I don't know about the US but when we need to apply for credit cards in singapore they usually ask for our income tax information for the past 2 years... (especially if we are self-employed)

Get an LLC/Ltd/S.A. etc. And become a real company. Become a director of the company. Put yourself on a pay roll. Problem solved.

You are basically a self employed individual. It's as plain as that and you can still state some of the details about your job if they ask you what is your business.
