The "Free iPods/iPads" ads. How do they work?

Hey guys, it's been a while I haven't been in the IM world and I don't know exactly where to start anymore. I've had the luck to create a wordpress website and after all the hard work I only made 1 sale which brought me 30$.

I want to get back in the whole IM business and this time I'm more serious than ever. I was reading about these sites that offer free ipods and ipads but I don't understand how they get their revenue from this.

What does it take to create one of these websites and how do they work?
Are they worth the work? If not, what is the "new thing" that you guys use to make your money?

I understand IM doesn't bring you thousands of dollars instantly. I'm looking for a stable income to start making. To be honest, I would be happy with 10$ a month, at least it's a start.

Thanks

When you sign up to receive a free product, typically you have to complete an offer(s) of some type that the site gets paid for and also refer other users who then sign up and complete an offer(s).

So if the product the site is giving away costs $200, then they may want to get $300 in total completed offers between the user and the referrals before they will actually give the product away.

Some sites may require this to happen with in X months, in hopes that you fall short of everything being completed in time and then not have to make good on the free product. Some sites may have what are called, if I recall correctly...offers of doom. Which are basically offers that are very difficult to find anyone to complete and require at least one be completed. Again, as a way to try and not have to make good on giving the product away. At least this stiff was happening years ago, maybe things have changed.

If your thinking about setting a site up like this, all the offers that you have must be offers that are allowed to be incentivized for 2 reasons

    1. Some companies don't allow it. For example lead generation which doesn't cost the person filling out the form anything, so they may just fill out the lead just to complete an offer. Then the company buying the leads ends up with leads that don't convert because the person wasn't really interest.

    2. When an offer is incentived it requires the company that is making the offer to report back to the affiliate the persons info who completed the offer. Which you have to have, because if your giving away a product for completing X offers, you need to know that the offers where actually completed by the person, etc...

There are scripts that exist that will automate the entire process. You just need to build the site and get the offers (cpa networks is where most get them from). I know there use to be good money in this, but don't know what it's like these days.

Right. The produce (in the end) is not truly free.
