Don't you hate when money goes from your account without you wanting it?

Hello warriors,

Today $55 flew from my paypal account into go daddy's pockets for 6 info domains that I do not use and will never use.

I so hate itttt...

This are domains that I bought at the start of my IM journet when I was very entushiastic and bought around 11 info domains which I tought were good.

This should be a reminder for people to cancel your subscriptions that you no longer want before you pay money for something that is of not use to you.

Regards, Marian

All of my domains are on manual renew. You can call Godaddy and get a refund. Happened to me once and I asked them to put all of my domains on manual renew. They were able to do that globally from their end and they refunded me for the renewals.

Well, I'd have to ignore numerous email messages in order to actually lose a domain. Godaddy sends messages constantly both before and after expiration to get it renewed.

True, that's a frequent lesson for people who deal with domains. Usually it is a useful one-time distraction that works as a permanent reminder.

Godaddy (and every other registrar) has an option on each domain's settings to define if you want to auto-renew it or not. While automatic renewal is useful for domains that you do not wish to lose (for example by some calendar mistake), it can be a common "trap" for distracted costumers. You believe you are letting an unwanted domain expire, and next thing you know it is yours for another paid year.

    Always check your auto-renew settings.

They already do. You can simply choose to turn off autorenew and let a domain expire. This is how bad domains die...

That's right, when I said "should" I meant that the option is there and one should look for it, should have stated that better An auto-renew option is a good policy for any registrar, any way you look at it. And for the user who cannot be bothered to keep track of mails and expiry dates, it can be a life-saver.

I tend to favour Namecheap, and they also warn with plenty of time to spare, whether it is domain expiry dates / whois privacy renewals / etc.

All mine (except two or three that I will always keep) are on manual renew for the same reason as the OP.

I had a phase of buying domain names that 'might be useful' - around 15 were due to be renewed at the same time.

In those days I didn't know about manual renew and got a hefty chunk taken from my Paypal acc.

Now GoDaddy send endless reminders up to a month before they are due, giving me ample time to decide if I want to renew or not.

Newbies take note: If your domains are not essential to your business, set them on Manual Renew.

Why were they on auto-renew to begin with? I would call and try to get a refund, especially since the transaction just occurred.

I don't know how someone can lose a domain with GoDaddy since they send out 600 email reminders for 3 months before expiration.... they even called me this month.... kind of annoying

Which is probably one of the reasons why it can be ineffective. Every one of those emails tells you that one of your domains is going to expire. You get all freaked out, log into your GoDaddy account only to find out that it's due to expire in 3 months. So every email after that sends of a message in your brain that tells you "another bs email from GoDaddy trying to get me to reup my domain or set everything to renew at the same time... blah blah blah!"

You all do know that Godaddy is one of the few registrars that give you a refund if you call within 36 hrs? I'd call sooner just to be safe, but I've gotten refunds for domains that I accidentally registered with a typo, for renewals that I didn't want renewed, etc.

We do send out domain renewal notices to the email account of file 90, 60, 30, 15, 5 days prior to the renewal. Also you may turn off automatic renewal for you products so this doesn't occur in the future. Please be sure to contact Support as soon as possible in regard to your recent renewal, as you may be eligible for a refund. Support can be reached anytime via email or Phone. ^Colby Go Daddy Social Media Team

I use Namecheap.com and can recommend it to anyone. It's easy to use and notifications are multiple and clear at the time of renewal. Then I decide if I want to renew or not.
