Is he an outsourced worker? Why don't you just find another one? Unless the work they provide is that great.

This can be a problem in certain areas.

Is this an ongoing problem? Is he working from home?

There are a huge number of Internet cafes in the Philippines. I paid a VA the extra 15PHP per hour to use a cafe for a while.

  If ther VA is worth the money and provides a quality service that you don't think you're likely to find from someone else, then it's definately worth the extra bit to either pay for a better connection, or for a connection elsewhere (such as an internet cafe / library etc)

  location is key here - there are three major metro areas in the philippines - manila, cebu and davao city, with some support in the neighboring or nearby cities - these typically have good connections. you may have good connectivity in areas outside these, as our friend in iligan city earlier stated.
  
  yes, ask them who their isp is with - if it is with a major isp like pldt you should be ok.

Funny how you defend one group and then turn around and use the term "paki" in the same breath.

But at any rate no one said anything bad about Philipinos, he was just asking if there is a good Internet connection available in the country. It's a legitimate question cause not every country has stable connectivity. I live in the United States and even I have to jump through hoops to get broadband.

I have used 4 different VA's from the Philippines and had no problems. A couple of them would log into my online conference room and work with me one on one. It takes a great connection to keep up on most conference software .. so .. yes .. the Philippines does have high speed connections available.

I think you need to ask him. Internet in many countries has issues. Not every country has a good internet connection lines.

I would suggest probably big cities has a better shots than the small one.

I am facing the same issue with one of the guys I am outsourcing to in india, his network down many times a day

firstly, you spell "Filipino" with a single "P"...otherwise, the world's current top boxer, a filipino himself Manny Pacquio will come after you

( kidding of course). You can pay him extra or not, that will depend on your arrangement. I outsource outside of the Metropolitan Manila and they still get fast 'net connections...

As far as I know, the Internet service is very good in the Philippines. So either he arranges for a better connection or service or you may need to consider finding someone else. They may do good work but if it's difficult to communicate, that takes away much of the benefits.

No I wouldn't pay for an outsourcer to get a better connection unless they were the best thing since sliced bread at what they do.

Get somebody who's reliable all of the time and does the work you need in a timely and accurate fashion.

Otherwise, just move on.

A reliable connection is a must and a responsibility of a VA. So I suggest that you talk to your VA and ask him to change his internet connection. There are a lot of fast internet connection in the Philippines but it also depends on where your VA lives, If he resides in the city then there's no problem choosing a good connection.

The area your worker is in could be bad, or they just cannot afford high speed internet. I would say if you can afford it give them a raise to get to a cafe or to buy a better internet package. Only do this though if you think that the work they provide cannot be replaced.

One of my guys had intermittent power brown outs last summer. He solved the problem by going to an internet "cafe" in the town to work. Evidently the business had a power generator.

But like others have said, if they cannot resolve the problem with the internet connection, get another employee. They are good, plentiful, and eager to work.

You want to pay them well (a reasonable wage for the Philippines for the task they are doing, and considering the quality of their work) treat them fairly and with respect, but the worst thing you can do is hang on to a bad one, whatever the reason.

Hi AbdullahKaragoz,

I am from Iligan City, Philippines and I have a 3 MBPS Internet at the moment and hopefully I could have the 5 MBPS.

If your Filipino VA lives in a city then he or she could definitely be able to have a faster internet. Of course, depending on his/her budget.

I have heard that here in the Philippines, if you live in a province, your internet is not that good.

I recommend PLDT to be his or her Internet Service Provider.

There are places in the Philippines that their internet connection is not that good. But I haven't have experience anything that the internet connections there are slow or not that good. I would suggest to inform your Filipino friend to use the Internet cafe since most of their connections are fast and they cater to surfing and online games to customers, so there's no way that they will be using a slow connection.
There's no mockery done to the Filipinos, although it was misspelled, he was just asking some questions and needs our help as a form of advice or suggestions. No need to mock anyone in here. We should be helping those who are in need. It was kind of funny when Manny Pacquiao's name was mentioned, lol. I know it was a joke but it was funny, nice one there man.
