Hi Everyone,

I love Ning's simplicity, however, I want to be prepared if ever I have to move my platform onto a stand-alone social networking platform such as vBulletin, etc. (or in case Ning decides to sell)

Does anyone know if a Ning site can be EASILY converted later?

Has anyone done a Ning conversion and if so, anything I would need to be aware of?

Thanks much.

I've used Ning and I love Ning, but I don't know of a way to convert a Ning site later.

    Hi blueprint4love,

I tried replying to your message, but I'm still under the required number of post to reply to pms.

Anyways, Ning cannot be converted to any of the stand alone forum softwares because it's hosted on their server and do not provide the database for converting.

Thank you, Jasper, for your response. Yes, I've continued my research and have been researching Ning for days on out and it's not a viable option for me. From what it sounds like people who want to leave Ning later on or sell their sites have worked for zero assets since none of their work belongs to them. Not good.

I've also researched vBulletin but frankly I'm confused as to what exactly vBulletin is. My simple goal is to create a community specific to my topic, which allows people to have the freedom to use the site as if it was theirs. They should be able to have their own profiles, their blog entries, their own video and audio uploads, participate in the forum and invite others to their community within the community.

Hence my interest in Ning, vBulletin and BuddyPress.

If you're using Ning, here are links to some plugins that claim to import Ning into Buddypress (multiple user version of Wordpress):

WordPress › Import from Ning « WordPress Plugins

Teleogistic / Import from Ning: Import Ning users to Wordpress and BuddyPress

    Ning To BuddyPress User Importer

I haven't used them, but they may be worth looking into.
