How to start a trend of websites in my city? Help!

Hello friends, I am from a small city and people here are unaware about the websites and their importance. They don't know how a website can increase the reputation and goodwill of a business. Here people DO have a capacity to pay around $10/Month for a website, but my problem is that how to convince the business people that website is a must for today. How can I convince them that they will do better with their business email rather than a free one like gmail or yahoo.

One more thing, can you please tell me how much should I charge for a static 6 pages website with common tabs like home, about, contact, products etc. as well as when they ask me to update the website?

Many thanks!

It's up to you how much are you going to charge, you would do the best if you look at your competition and try to do a little bit better pricing.

Find a business and give them a site for FREE. That's how I got started in my small town a couple of years ago.

I especially picked a very active "networker" within the community. I did this because word of mouth is very powerful. I really hit the mark with their site and pretty soon the phone started to jingle.

Then I got invited to a chamber of commerce luncheon deal, and the rest (as they say) was history.

You just need to show them how a website can really change their business and how they reach people. I am doing the exact same thing with mobile sites next month. Give one away for FREE so someone who has a big mouth, and boom, the phone will ring.

Small towns are all about that face to face networking, so don't hesitate to get out in the community and just meet people at business events. Rent a booth at an upcoming business fair and ALWAYS BE CLOSING.

Try and up-sell a marketing package instead of an "update" package. Most local businesses don't really need to have monthly updates (generally speaking), however, they do need help sharing their brand spanking new website with the town.

Business cards, little flyer's for window shops, bumper stickers, you name it. A local bank I built a five page site for (everything else was an online banking system integrated) went from being a $1000 sale to nearly $5k because of the "marketing plan" I sold them on.

I still smile when I see shopping bags with their logo and url we did for them while strolling through my local super market--and its been nearly 4 years since then!

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.
