Bylines & Getting People to Publish Your Distributed Articles

4 replies
I know a lot of forum members here concentrate on getting their articles into directories and getting their bylines clicked. Or they just want to get the keyword text into their bylines and aren't necessarily thinking about much else.

But I wonder what people have noticed for the other purpose of article marketing - getting targeted publishers to pick up their content (so you can get further reach, more incoming links, etc).

I'm using a WordPress plug in from Unique Article Wizard, so I've been sifting through a lot of content lately. Most of it, I don't approve because it's written by a man (GASP! I know...some of them are really good, but for the website I'm using it for, the content is all by women. Makes one want to consider "generic" names for bylines.) or it's just not very good.

But then out of the ones leftover that are good, I find myself refusing to publish quite a few only because of the byline. If the bylines don't contain a person's name or they are just simply written for keywords, I am less likely to publish.

Another strange phenomenon is people who use multiple pen names - who are clearly the same person, promoting the same site. Now, in some cases, I can see the use for this, but if you want targeted websites to regularly publish your content - some consistency will go a long way.

Again, I know that I have different requirements than other publishers, but it's something to think about...what could keep you from being published on other sites? Or if you regularly publish submitted content, what do you look at when it comes to bylines?

Thanks for your thoughts.

    Hi Alice,
    I personally do not use "Pen Names" I use my real name on all articles I write and distribute.

    As for bylines and/or resource boxes it greatly depends upon the article directory and/or website you are using. Some as you probably know do not even have a resource box at all, while others will have just a resource box and again some have a resource box and a byline both.

    In anycase though the resource box will change greatly depending upon what article is being submitted. If including my website (main) then it may be a small bio but if including a product I developed then it will push more towards the product like an extension of the article.

    Bottom line - It can vary greatly depending upon what you are doing..

      Thanks for your input...good things to think about it. I agree on the "extension of the article" thing - definitely good for clickthroughs, but for other purposes it *might* be a drawback.

      Definitely, your strategy should change based on your purpose. Of course, often there are multiple purposes working at once that can work against each other. :-(

      I'm asking specifically in the cases where you hope that other publisher's will publish your content.

      Alice

      P.S. I have no problem with pen names. After all, most times I wouldn't know if someone is using a pen name. I was just mentioning those people who try to use a different name for promoting the same thing. If someone want websites (not directories) to publish their content, consistency helps as publishers will likely recognize and look for the names that submitted good content before.

    Alice,
    What I normally try to do is not blatant advertise, provide very informative information in the article for example:

    An article tools article would list some of tools used in article marketing and then follow up with a small bio

    Been online for over 23 years and have been developing websites for the last 15 years. I have built small html website to very large complex php and ajax based websites. I have created several successful internet marketing products and I am the owner of {website url}

    As I realize the publisher may not want a blatant advertisement on hiis/her website... Now if I am not so worried about publishers on certain website then I would go more into a slight advert type resource such as:

    Start creating quality articles and products all from one website. compose, create, submit, dripfeed your blog, marketing resources and much more... Visit {website url}

    Now I do not use articles to advertise any affiliate products, they are used for my website or my products.

    To answer your original question though it would be my hopes to target a related publisher (related to my site) that would appreciate the valued content without the blatant advertisement.

    I hope that answered your question ..lol

    Edited to add: I have no problems with Pen Names either, but like you said consistency is why I do not use them.

      Alice, I use the same plug-in on one of my old Adsense sites. I get a chuckle when I get three or four articles submitted with different titles and author names, yet when I preview them, each has "by Jane Doe" as the second line (and identical content).

      As for quality, from what I'm seeing, the definition of the word "article" is getting even looser than the definition of "celebrity"... :rolleyes:
