So I have a niche where you can't really talk to much about it. I've been trying hard to find topics to talk about but I'm starting to run out of ideas. So do you guys have experience with micro niche sites that don't make anymore posts and just focus on backlinking? I feel like I can focus my efforts on backlinking instead of trying to find content ideas.

Yes, you can and should focus on backlinking for a few weeks. Good content will only take you so far. Maybe in a month you will have some fresh ideas for more content.

I agree. If you have a handful of pages with good content, spend some time focusing on backlinking. In a micro-niche with low competition, having good content and more quality backlinks than your competitors should allow you to rank pretty well.

One thing I do is hold back a little by not writing about all of my ideas to start. Keeping a few on reserve allows me to update or add a page here and there, because Google likes activity such as page updates.

If you can find any PLR on your niche topic, get it and use it for inspiration. You can also pay someone to write content for you. The warriors for hire section has a bunch of people who do that.

Try taking a look at your topic and figure out how you apply real world events or thoughts to it. Lists always work or what you could do is to begin asking your community what type of content they would like to see. Once you start creating content around the questions people have you will begin to see a theme that you could continue with by playing around with different approaches to the content.

You don't need a TON of content, you just need quality content. A site with 10 - 15 powerful posts can do wonders over a blog that has hundreds of posts that are something like 200 - 300 words. Claim your authority by giving away awesome information instead of just merely entertaining people, ya know?

I agree, maybe take a break from writing content and work on some backlinking and when you come back to writing you might have a fresh outlook and think of new ideas.

You could also look for some PLR on your topic and purchase PLR and rewrite it, that often gives you new ideas too.

Or you could write on related topics - for example, I have a website that is on a particular dog breed merchandise, but I write posts about anything to do with dogs as well as posts about merchandise for that breed. As long as it can tie in to and relate to your niche then you could add it to your blog.

Maintain a balance between good content and backlinking. I see lots of threads asking for opinion on how to find good content ideas every now and then.. I'll just sum a few up: Y! Answers, forums (search on big-boards), e-mail lists, print magazines, T.O.C. of Amazon Books or Google Books (which you can access for free), buy some relevant books or eBooks, buy PLR content if you can find.. and rewrite 'em.. Etc.

Yes, backlinking is extremely important. But so is On-site optimization and good content... remember to use the 'right' or optimum keywords with fair amount of competition, maintain a good keyword density and use optimized h1 tags, meta tags, etc, for optimum on-site SEO. Then set goal of building at least 30 or so backlinks every day until you're ranked high, or so..

Good luck. Remember.. Balance. Is. Important.

I think it's good when you feel a bit of writer's block to focus on backlinking for a bit to get your creative energy back. You can also write a faq page for your site covering frequently asked questions. For instance, I have a yoga site and have gotten e-mails from people about yoga during pregnancy, yoga for the elderly and what stretches are kid-friendly. I am compiling some questions and answers for my website as well as making a pdf I can send to my newsletter subscribers.

Compiling a FAQ is SUCH a great idea to recall forgotten things and get more content ideas, Debbie! I feel silly I never thought of that before!
Anyway, thanks for the idea. I'd be grateful if anyone can share more ideas like that.
