Any Piwik Users Here? Having Issues...

I want to switch over from G analytics, to Piwik, as I prefer having the information on my own servers (google knows enough about everything already )

Anyway, It's behaving weirdly. I have installed it, and that's fine. But after both placing the code within a few sites footer files (wp blogs) and also using trying to use the plugin.

I am getting almost no data coming back, although I have seen some visitors tracked (which is weirder than if it just wasn't picking up anything)

Anyone experienced with Piwik, who might be able to help?

Thanks very much,

Nick

Piwik is great. No information to Google. No slow page loads waiting for GA.

    Have you?

    - installed the tracker file

    - setup your domain within the Piwik admin, which gives you a unique number associated with your domain

    - in each WP install, made sure to reference the correct unique domain number

    - in each WP install, correctly referenced the location of your tracker file

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, tick to all of those, except Im not exactly sure what you mean by tracker file...?

Basically I did the main 2 things:

    1. installed piwik on my own server (all criteria met, green ticks throughout)

    2. tried adding 3 seperate new sites into piwik and tracking them, by either creating new projects in piwik backend, then either adding the code generated into the footer.php file of my wordpress sites, or using the plugin, inputting the correct directory location for my piwik install, and inputting the correct unique domain number....

No idea why it's not working, it's not exactly a hard thing to install, seems pretty straight forward, but im just not seeing the data coming back....

Any more help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Nick

There is a file called PiwikTracker.php

I believe the setup is (or at least this is how I have it setup):

      1. Install Piwik on a domain.

      2. Install PiwikTracker.php on your webhost root and point it to your install.

      3. The Piwik code used on your domains on the web host points to PiwikTracker.php

    Thanks again.

I am just looking over the install doc that comes with the download, and it doesn't appear to have anything about setting up a piwitracker.php file in the root...

Weird, you would think that if it was a major part of the setup, then they would include it in the basic install setup instructions.. im confused.

I can't even see the PiwikTracker.php in my download of the script. Are you sure it's still there in the latest version?

So the way you're using does not use javascript? which means you can't get keyword info, referrer info, etc...

All of that data is pretty important for me to get, so I'm going to have to find a way to get it to work with javascript.

    Ahhhh...

Just realized it does work with javascript if you go with the Method 1: Advanced Image Tracker.

however it says something in the instructions that doesn't make sense:

Upload the PiwikTracker.php file in the same path as your project files

What does it mean by "project files" do you think....?

I would have to assume that it means where I previously installed piwik on my server....? maybe im wrong...?

also, it's not clear to me if I need to edit the PiwikTracker.php file, as when I open it up, it looks like it may need updating for my particular server/directory placement of the piwik files, but then it's not mentioned in the steps...

Obviously this product is packaged + marketed by programmers

Anyway, thanks for your continual help, much appreciated.

I'm definitely on the right track now for sure
