I was just wondering what other warriors think.

Which do think is the best place to start with in the IM industry?

For starters, I would reccomend being an affiliate 1st..Because product creation requires certain amount of experience and capital. But the long term benefits definitely lies with product creation, as the power of LEVERAGE is all to obvious.

Affiliate marketing will teach you traffic generation without bogging you down with the greater complexities of product and sales system creation.

      Good first step. Affiliate marketing.

    Hi David,
I Believe that affiliate marketing is much profitable than product creation.
Promoting affiliate product is less time consuming and you don't have to worry to compete with other expert in product creation.
And the commision for affiliate program can be more than 50%.

Can't wait to see this pole result.

    Both.

For someone who wants to get started right away,
affiliate marketing is the way to go. But it's also a
good idea to develop products - software, ebooks,
courses, etc. once you get a grasp of things.

Affiliate marketing because there is less of a learning curve. While the
promotion of your own product or an affiliate product is essentially the
same, with some minor differences, the product creation process itself can
be quite overwhelming for somebody just starting out.

Think about all that's involved just for an ebook being promoted through a
      free giveaway.

      1. Squeeze Page
      2. AR Series
      3. Sales Page
      4. Product
      5. Setting Up Payment Processing

And that's just basic stuff for a very simple product.

I didn't create my first product until I had been marketing for 3 years.

Ok, this is my own personal views and some will disagree
with it but if I had to start over I would create a product
      first.

Here's is why as a newbie you have to get traffic to your
affiliate page in order to make any kind of commission on
      the products you are promoting...

I know some people will say you can setup a blog and start
getting traffic to it, well that is true but you will have to create
      content for that blog...

This post could turned into one long as hell to explain things but
let me just put it simple...If you already have experience in the
niche then taking the steps to develop a product is easy and
getting people to promote it for now this is where the traffic is
      gonna be coming from...

Instead of you going out looking for traffic all you will be doing is
looking for JV partners, that already have the traffic...

I believe affiliate marking is easy to a point but it all comes down
to one major factor which is traffic...Now starting with your own
product has it's drawbacks but the benefits totally out ways starting
      as an affiliate marketer...

      What you guys think...

Affiliate marketing is the best place to start in my opinion, because you would learn a lot on how to promote products and how to know what converts which would make your life a lot easier when you have your own product.

Although it's possible to make a lot more money with your own product and an army of affiliates, I agree with Steven that it is much easier for a newbie to start making money with affiliate marketing.

In my opinion newbies should start out with article marketing to affiliate products. After learning the basics of persuasive writing, marketing research and conversion then it may be time to start thinking about creating your own product.

My free 21 page report (see my sig below) goes into great detail of why I feel it's better for newbies to start with affiliate marketing than creating their own product.

John, this is beauty about doing business there's many different
ways to do or achieve goals in business...

Most people are saying in this post about starting out in affiliate
marketing but I tend to think otherwise, product creating and selling
your own products from start can and should be look at...

Most of the companies owners today didn't start as affiliates but
found a market and created product for it...

I got my start with affiliate marketing.

In my opinion, most people who are Newbies with a product they want to sell online think the Internet is full of millions of people who want to buy their widgit.

Newbies to marketing have no idea that you find what people want to buy and sell that.

Inventing something new then spending time and money marketing it without first knowing if people WANT it is the fast track to failure.

Newbies should ONLY start out with affiliate marketing.

Peter, ok as I see it everyone is pushing for affiliate marketing
and under the impression if you are a newbie you can't or it's
to hard to start with product creation and selling...

But the thing is it is just as hard or even harder to run with
affiliate marketing the learning curve is just as hard...

        David,

I guess it ultimately depends on what any given "Newbie" brings to the table. Perhaps they are excellent writers. Maybe they already know about marketing, just nothing about the Internet. There are probably lots of people who could jump right into the Internet with their own product from the get-go.

But I'd be willing to bet that 99% of Newbies would be inexperienced in both Internet Marketing AND Product Creation.

Learning both at the same time doubles the work load and learning curve.

        (In my humble opinion.)

You said it man maybe in the IM niche most newbies would
have a bloody hard time creating a product but again if they
have the skillset and a unique angle in IM why can't they.

As everything else it depends on the person and skills...

Which is better, being PC World or being Dell Computers. Being Boeing or being Southwest Airlines. I think it all depends on what you are good at.

So both are good and neither of them are easy.
