New here and have a question about mailing list

Hi, I'm new here and just signed up recently. First off, Happy New Year to everyone. I'm glad I found this forum, god theres a lot of information here!

I have been dabbling in IM for 2 years and have received 2 checks from Clickbank but the problem is I can't seem to get consistent with my IM income. This year I told myself that I will reach my goal of $100 a day at least.

Anyway, what I have done so far is set up a web site around a niche, the usual stuff. It is bascially a review site with 2-3 product reviews. I have done article submissions and social bookmarking, so I guess thats where I get my sales every now and then.

One thing that I have learned from this forum is that many people are using a mailing list or opt-in list. I would like to implement this on my web site but I have no idea where to start . I've read about Aweber and Getresponse and I know there is a cost involved with them. Is it crucial to have mailing list for IM? And if it is, and I actually set one up, lets say with Aweber, is it easy to implement? Can you also implement it on a blog?
Sorry for the little newbie questions.

One last question for now; because Im not good with web design, is it worth outsourcing them so I have more time to work on getting backlinks, etc... for future niche projects?

I hope someone can shed some light on these issues.

Thanks in advance,
Des

Setting up an autoresponder is very easy to do all the services
give you the code to add to your blog and websites...

What might be an issue is what to send your subscribers and
when to send them the content...

But that's a whole other post...

    Hi Des,

Let me just quickly address one part of your post (and I'm sure others will come along to address other parts and specific questions):

Yes. In fact, you need to build at least two lists -- a prospect list and a customer list.

    Think of it this way...

You have 100 visitors come by your site. Let's say you have a 2% conversion rate, meaning that two people out of every 100 visitors buys. If your product is $25, you make $50 for every 100 visitors.

But if you're not building a list, then you need to start practically from scratch every day, hunting and scouring for new traffic to send to your site. It's never ending.

Now what if instead you started building a list? For starters, you'd be building a customer list. Since it's easier and cheaper to sell to an existing customer than to a brand new "cold" customer, the big profits of your business are actually in the backend -- in that customer list. You can make relatively easy money just pitching solid solutions to your existing customers.

    Now about that prospect list...

Imagine... 100 people come to your site, but now you're capturing a certain percentage of them on your mailing list. Maybe you can get 25, 50 or even more to join your mailing list every day (really depends on how targeted your traffic is, how much traffic you're getting, and how good your sales copy is).

In just one week, capturing 25 people a day on a list, you'd have 175 people on your list.
By week two you have 350 people.
    by week three, 525.
    by week four, 700.

All along, you're building a relationship with these people by providing good content. Then you send a promotion to your 700 subscribers. Two percent buy. And just like that, you have 14 new customers (and $350) -- and it only took you a few minutes to create the promo and send it to your list.

Now you numbers will vary. If you're just getting started, the numbers may be lower. But if you don't start building a list today -- no matter how much traffic you're getting -- you'll kick yourself down the road when you realize how many potential subscribers and how much money you let slip through your fingers.

    Cheers,
    Becky

    Hi Des,

Tina and I use Aweber also.

It's simple to set up and use, we've never had any issues with the service.

    Dave.

    Des,

You are going to LOVE this...

There's a program called Artisteer. Google it. Get it. It's the BEST $99 I've ever spent.

I use it every day. You will too.

    Peter

P.S. I'm NOT an affiliate for Artisteer. I don't even know or care if they have an affiliate program. This is a completely unbiased, uncompensated endorsement.

P.P.S. Good luck! Internet Marketing is the BEST!

Personally, I find it easiest to create a product in a niche and build your list around that.

If you do not have a product, focus on one niche and one niche only until you have a decent amount of income coming in. When I first started a little over a year ago, I found myself jumping from niche to niche and I never had any steady income come in until I built up a single niche first.

I also use aweber. I dabbled around with getresponse too, but found my liking to aweber a bit more. Also, if you have a newsletter, I recommend double opt in for your mailing list. If you are not giving away anything free and only offering more information on your product, roll with single opt in.

    That's whats working for me.

Adam, I can definitely relate to jumping from niche to niche. Focus is key I agree. One question though, what do you mean by double opt in?

      Thanks for the info btw!

Imagine having 100,000 lists of subscribers on keyword : dog training,
How much can you make every month, just by sending one email(link
to affiliate programs that you want to promote) to them?

You can sit back and relax, but the question is 'can you maintain your lists
so that they will trust you and buy any products from you?'

Think about it. Hope this help.

Thanks Azim. Quick question, once I have the the initial opt-in list up and running, how do you maintain it. For example, getting the follow up newsletters, etc.. Do you work on these yourself or do you get someone to help?

Double opt-in means the visitor enters their email address, then receives a confirmation email, in which they must click another link to confirm the opt-in.

I've been in the internet marketing game since 2003 and it took me years to realize how important it is to build a list. I have tried every way of marketing online without building a list and believe me building a list is the absolute best way. After I finally realized how important list building is, I had no problem building lists, but I didn't keep up with the lists.

I found it very easy to build lists, and I would write about 6-8 follow-up emails, but I would only get a few sales. Then I would get frustrated and move on to a different niche thinking that the old niche was too saturated, or the affiliate links wasn't working properly when all along the problem was that I wasn't building a relationship with my list.

I have built several lists throughout the years, but I would always move on after reading about other ways of marketing where I didn't need a list. Believe it or not, I have had about 4 different aweber accounts because I would cancel the accounts after finding another marketing strategy, then later get an account again when someone else tells me that I need to have a list. I went back and forth for years. Imagine how many subscribers I would have by now if I would have kept my two main lists that I had started building back in 2003.

Anyway, I realized that building a relationship with your list is the most important thing you can do. My 6-8 follow-up emails were not enough. You need to continously follow-up with your list by giving them good content. Don't stop after a certain number of emails, stick with it and stay focused. Don't get lost in information overload!

Aweber is very user friendly and has many features. Also, their customer service is excellent.

You don't have to outsource anything, a simple lead capture page is very easy to create with a free software called kompozer. All you have to do is just copy and paste the aweber code into kompozer and upload it to your hosting account (I made a video showing how to do this).

Don't think that your lead capture page has to be all flashy with pretty graphics, a simple page will do just fine.

Thanks for pointing out the importance of building list Queenv. Theres some really good ideas and information there. I guess theres a lot of trial and error involved with IM and more importantly learning from your mistakes.

Im making a note on this point "...building a relationship with your list is the most important thing..."

5 months with List: Total sales = $10,000+

    another newbie asking: Priceless

Yep - pay the money, get an autoresponder, and then be careful your tires don't make ruts in the road to the bank
