Have you failed at IM? Good.

I saw a thread the other day asking why everybody is making money here, except for him.

First of all, that is far from the truth. Most people are not making money and that is why they are on a forum where people come to learn about making money.

Second, most of the people here that are making money fell flat on their face time and time again, but they didn't give up. That is the difference between failing and being a failure. Very rarely do you succeed without failing first.

Third, you could be this guy. He is in a much worse situation than you, but he is not a failure.

I'd never be the grown up you see here today if I hadn't fallen flat on my face as many times that I have. In fact, I think it actually helped build my character and made me really treasure any successes I've had because I can appreciate them a whole lot more. Good OP.

Here are a couple of quotes that I have on my white wall:

    RoD

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." -Michael Jordan

This the best phrase that I have read regarding why we should not succumb to our failure. People who faced flat many times in their life are the people that we used to asked questions from regarding what we should know about the IM world. They did not reach that status with the blink of their eye, but they challenged themselves to overcome such hindrances and learn from their past experiences. People who feel that they failed in their quest are those people who usually give up and quits in the middle of their journey.
If we were to base the story on the life of Michael Jordan, he didn't attain success automatically when he entered in the NBA. It took him a number of seasons before he finally attained that championship with the Chicago Bulls. As what he said, he missed thousands of shots in his life but he never gave up. Continues to play hard and focuses on his goal to grab that championship rings. He is a very good example on how people should view on the challenges of life, do not give up and never backed down to the pressures and challenges that life has to face.

Agreed. Failing is just another form of testing unless you think you'll never be given another basket full of eggs to drop.

The reality is, in life you can't get from point "A" to point "B" without stepping in fresh egg yokes and tripping over baskets that are lying around waiting to be picked up.

You say you dropped your basket?

Well then, look for another one and pick it up.

Let's face it, we often look at someone successful and focus just on the result, but forget to think about the process that got him there. What separates someone who makes it and someone who doesn't? The ability to take action and stick with it and fail at it but learn from it and keep going. 97% of people give up when they hit a stumbling block. Which is why only 3% end up succeeding.

I am a very successful marketer now. But oh yes, I felt like Thomas Edisons long lost loser cousin.

It took many hours of testing, and failing to really get there.

Remember Thomas Edison, It was a process of elimination. he knew that by failing he was getting closer to success. That is sort of how I felt.

Everytime I did something and it made me money I would write it down, and just do more of that and less of the things that didnt.

So simple, yet most people will not accept this and try one thing and then say IM is a scam or doesnt work. Go figure.

Nope, I have never failed at IM.

To fail you have to admit defeat.

Just because you attempt to cross the pond on stepping stones and fall in during
the process doesn't make you a failure. You just swim across and learn from your
    mistakes.

To fail you have to quit.

Remove the words fail, failed and failure from your vocabulary and replace them with
things such as, well that didn't work like I planned it, Lesson learned, won't make that
mistake again and you'll see a difference in what you can really do in the future.

Let me ask you this, If a book about failures doesn't sell, is it a success?
If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you actually done?

    Have a Great Day!
    Michael

Failing only means it's something worth chasing after. Failing is a chance we take in order to get where we want to be. If it wasn't worth that "chance" of failing... it wouldn't be worth achieving.

My point is... if it is worth achieving, it is worth a failing attempt... but not giving up. It's just a stepping stone.

The sad part, E. Brian, is that many of these folks quit too early because of these "so called failures." Several years ago I was watching a documentary that chronicled the journey of some explorers that stumbled upon another explorers skeleton with treasure in his bony hand, 12 feet from the exit of the caves....

They said, if he would have gone a few more steps and turned to his left he would have seen his way out.

I remembered that story as I read your post and I think it parallels nicely with the kind of person I'm talking about. They work hard for awhile, don't see any success so they become tired and they quit. Ironically, they do so with the possibility that they could be just 2 months or 2 days from breaking through their barriers, becoming successful and enjoying a new life.

I'm sure that most of you have heard the story of Colonel Sanders but I think it is worth repeating here. Here is Tony Robbins version from his book "Letters to a Friend."

"How did Colonel Sanders become such an unbelievable success? Was it because he was born wealthy? Was his family rich? Did they send him to a top university like Harvard? Maybe he was successful because he started his business when he was really young. Are any of these true?

The answer is no. Colonel Sanders didn't begin to fulfill his dream until he was 65 years old! What drove him to finally take action? He was broke and alone. He got his first social security check for $105, and he got mad but instead of blaming society or just writing congress a nasty note, he started asking himself, "What could I do that would be valuable for other people? What could I give back?" He started thinking about what he had that was valuable to others.

His first answer was, "Well, I have this chicken, recipe, everyone seems to love! What if I sold my chicken recipe to restaurants? Could I make money doing that?" Then he immediately thought, "That's ridiculous. Selling my recipe won't even pay the rent." And he got a new idea: "What if I not only sold them my recipe but also showed them how to cook the chicken properly? What if the chicken was so good that it increased their business? If more people come to see them and they make more chicken sales, maybe they will give me a percentage of those additional sales."
Many people have great ideas. But Colonel Sander was different. He was a man who didn't just think of great things to do. He put them into action. He went and started knocking on doors, telling each restaurant owner his story: "I have a great chicken recipe, and I think if you use it, it'll increase your sales. And I'd like to get a percentage of that increase."

Well, many people laughed in his face. They said, "Look, old man, get out of here. What are you wearing that stupid white suit for?" Did Colonel Sanders give up? Absolutely not. He had the #1 key to success; I call it personal power. Personal power means being persistence in taking action: Every time you do something, you learn from it, and you find a way to do it better next time. Colonel Sanders certainly used his personal power! Instead of feeling bad about the last restaurant that had rejected his idea, he immediately start focusing on how to tell his story more effectively and get better results from the next restaurant.

How many times do you think Colonel Sanders heard no before getting the answer he wanted? He was refused 1,009 times before he heard his first yes. His spent two years driving across America in his old, beat-up car, sleeping in the back seat in his rumpled white suit, getting up each day eager to share his idea with someone new. Often, the only food he had was a quick bite of the samples he was preparing for perspective buyers. How many people do you think would have gone for 1,009 no's - two years of no's! - and kept on going? Very few. That's why there is only one Colonel Sanders. I think most people wouldn't get passed twenty no's, much less a hundred or a thousand! Yet this is sometimes what it takes to succeed.
If you look at any of the most successful people in history, you will found this common thread: They would not be denied. They would not accept no. They would not allow anything to stop them from making their vision, their goal, a reality."

To those who have endured several challenges in your quest to become successful in internet marketing but have not been able to break through yet. Realize one thing, and that is that you are not alone. I can't speak specifically for E. Brian but I can tell you that many, many successful Warriors that you see on the Warrior Forum every day could have quit too and some of them may have wanted to quit, but you know what, they didn't. I could of given up and alot of folks including my family and friends told me to give up but I had nothing else and I refused to give up on my dream. When you have a big enough "want to" you'll find a way to succeed and you won't give up.

I believe most people who failed are the ones on the pedestal now because they didn't allow failure to ruin their dream. As for internet marketing, it is normal to fail because even the most knowledgeable persons in IM experienced it. And it's one of the reason we have words like "trial and error" and "testing". Nobody succeeded in just one try.

    Too true.

Nick Vujicic is such a great example of overcoming obstacles.

I can't get anywhere near imagining how difficult it must be to put myself in his shoes, but I do connect with his fighting spirit.

It's amazing how someone like him can make you think to yourself, "I want to be more like him."

I know the walls of difficulty for me in both life and business have sometimes hit me right in the face, but when looking at obstacles as teachers rather than the opposition, it can help you have a completely different perspective on failure.

Of course, we don't want to keep repeating the same mistakes, as that would be insane, but realizing that walls can be ladders is a great realization.

Thanks for the post, and the good reminder.

Many people have read so much information on forums and in ebooks that they can't even see the evidence right in front of them. Even after getting some small results they fail to do more of those actions that produced them. The 'forum voices' in their head have now become stronger than their own, logical, rational and successful inner voice. Everyone needs to stop reading and do more of whats working right in front of them.
