Dear friends,

I am currently preparing some e-books, and I am looking for a service that can transform my word document on a very professional and well designed e-books.

Any professional services, tools or tips for that ?

Thank you in advance,

Nas

If you aren't experienced when it comes to formatting, graphic design, all that crap then you need to outsource it. Don't be afraid to spend a little money to ensure quality, as a poorly designed product is not going to bring in much money at all.

Thank you for the feedback Joe ! As we are living in a world where the appearance matters, outsourcing is definitely option for me.

If you have free time and feel up to the task, learning your way around photoshop never hurt anyone, its a valuable skill.

However, if you've got money and don't want to learn anything, simply outsource it, as the above person said, don't be afraid to spend more for quality. A sleek, professional appearance will get you more business than a tatty mess.

Nas, you can make a professionally designed looking book interior in Word. Adobe InDesign has become pretty much the standard for designing book interiors for printed books, but Word will do 98% of what InDesign will do.

If you just copy the layout and design of printed books you like, and do so in Word, you will have a "professional" looking book interior. Make your .pdf from that, and if you save it as a .doc you can upload it to Kindle.

Book covers are a different story. To make them look good does require some graphic design knowledge and skill. Photoshop is good for this, but it is expensive and has a steep learning curve. I have seen covers done in Photoshop Elements.

You could outsource the covers and do your own interiors.

I disagree. InDesign is head and shoulders above what Word can do.

However, it comes down to what you really want out of the design. If you just want something that looks nice - then yes, Word will do.

InDesign, for me, is easier to work with than Word to create a really nice layout that will convert to a PDF file with WOW factor. The drawback to that is most people don't have InDesign and you really can't create an editable Word file that will have the impact that the InDesign file can produce. Therefore, the client has no way to edit the file in the future.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Here are some places to find people to create your ebook.

The warrior forum has a section called warriors for hire. There is also a services section. You can get to those sections from the main page.

The digital point forum. You could run a contest on there for a prize of say $50 to the best graphic or ebook design.

Fiverr.com This is a site where everything cost five dollars. Please be sure to look through the persons ratings and check them out before you pay them to create your ebook. I only mention this place, because I have heard others say they have had good luck with it.
