How to select Amazon product to promote

How do you go about selecting which product to promote on Amazon?

Are there any standards you apply in selecting a viable product to promote? I'd love to hear your strategies.

    First of all you need to ensure people are searching for the product. Usually, if people are searching using a brand name and model in the query, it's a good indication it's a buyer keyword. If the search volume is greater than 1,000 for that keyword, it would be a good option to go with; however you don't want to be aiming too high either.

    If the competition is high for a keyword, I generally don't bother. If it's low to medium, that interests me. The faster you can get ranked for a keyword, the faster you can potentially start earning commission.

    I also don't care what product it is in promoting, as long as it has a good search volume, low competition and I have faith in the product. In starting to steer away from electronic products on Amazon as they only offer 4% commission regardless of sale quantity.

      I agree. What niche are you trying to promote to? Think about the people, keywords, etc. you are targeting. If your site is about electronics for instance, you wouldn't want to try selling dolls. A simple example, but try to match up products your potential audience might be interested in.

    I'm thinking about building a review site that focuses on a niche with related products.

    For example, "Ergonomic Chairs."

    Do I do keyword research on a bunch of exact ergonomic chair models, or do I check to see if "ergonomic chairs" or "ergonomic chair reviews" is viable?
