Create it, rank it - sell it?

Hello warriors

I have a website currently ranking #1 for 'jogging benefits'. It took me around 2 months to finally get it up there. This is my frist real website ever since I engaged in internet marketing (march this year).

Here's the website: http://www.joggingbenefits.net

When I created this website, I was thinking that people who search for 'jogging benefits' want one of these 2 things:

- check if jogging really helps to lose weight (great opportunity and a doorway to weightloss market)
- want to read about jogging benefits in order to motivate themselves (opportunity to market motivational products)

Right now I am getting around 40-50 visitors/day, and an average of 2 opt-ins daily. An average time on site is 2min and 34 seconds. I think I did a pretty good job with the content as well...

Could someone tell me how to increase my opt-in rate, or where and how could I best promote my affiliate product? (currently promoting it in the top right sidebar).

Alternatively... if this is just a dead niche and a wrong keyword selection... do you think I could sell this website?

Greatly appreciate any input and looking forward to your answers!

Kind Regards,
Zannix

Personally, I would put your opt-in form near the top of your page, instead of the bottom.

      ^^^ This.

But as part of a little layout re-design.

Certainly the opt-in at the top, rather than the bottom. And I would take away both the items at the top left (the "search" thing is absolutely useless to you - and to readers, and the picture of the jogging man is just slowing down the page's loading-time and not helping you at all), and the picture/link of the girl in the top-right is not in any way an "incentivised/attractive click", at all, and I'll lay odds that you've never made one single sale from it, and I'll tell you why: most readers won't even know it's clickable.

You have to make it easy for people, with "click here" in flashing lights, not hide it away so that only another marketer would know it was a link in the first place, you know?

So ... I would take away the current left and right sidebar stuff that's at the top of the page, and put the opt-in prominently and centrally at the top, and expect considerable improvement from that.

You can also start to receive traffic from social networks. More trafic - more opt-ins.
    +Move the email-form above.

I would also prefer the top right bar. I think you are becoming impatient have patience and you shall see results soon or later.

Some people feel it's a tad invasive but a lightbox opt in form (the one that pops up over the top of your content after x amount of time) will greatly increase your conversions.

I find people don't even seem to be that deterred by a lightbox either - especially when you set them to only appear once and only after they've had a chance to check out your content

I have to disagree about lightbox opt-in forms - I really don't like them and find it an annoying distraction, especially when I'm in the middle of reading something and it pops up.

I know it's all down to personal preference though and others will disgaree with me.

When I want to subscribe, the place I usually look for an opt-in form is the upper right sidebar, for some reason.

I definitely think the opt-in form should be above the fold, especially if you're giving away an interesting product because I can see it straight away, even without reading the rest of the page.

As per above really, I'd personally put your opt-in on the top right if possible. Some people may not even get as far the bottom before they leave.

Also your affiliate link...is that the one to hypnoshop? Personally I wouldn't link to another huge page full of text then to the shop like you've done - as people might not get as far as the end of your article on motivation. Leave the article there and link it as an article with the link in it. But on the front page I'd have that image link directly to the affiliate shop...so it's effectively an advert.

Ideally though I'd suggest finding a similar product on Amazon to link to. Reason being is people know and trust Amazon so clicking through isn't nearly as hard AND you'll get commission on everything they buy, so even if they dont buy the hypnosis tape or whatever you linked but did buy some shoes - you'll get money!

You can take this further with your list too. Email them some good free content PLUS a feature like 'latest deals in running'. Make it seem like you've done a bunch of work finding the best deals online for them and simply write a small blurb about each & of course affiliate link a few products they might want (Chris Guthrie does this, quite successfully).

    Just my 2cents

Lightboxes have converted well for me on the Optins but I do find that a lot of people actually leave my websites when it pops up. So it can have a -ve affect on traffic.

You should also try to rank well for alternate or extension terms for your main keyword. Often people type up search terms in a variety of ways.

Place the opt-in form above the fold on your website and ensure that it is easy to find. You should split test various locations, colors, and designs. Have a clear submit button. Changing the word "send me the guide" into something new might also help like "Achieve the Body you Desire". Moreover, the most basic way to increase your opt in is to know who your prospects are and what they really want and by giving it to them, so you need to keep your page updated for current hot topics in your niche.

In my opinion you should worry about getting more traffic before you start taking all this time with design changes, etc. Content and traffic should be your main focus. Keep building content around your site, with each post optimized for a long-tailed keyword around the topic of jogging, exercise, running, etc. Put up a minimum of 3-5 articles per week with images, video, etc. Again make sure each post is optimized for just ONE keyword. Good luck.

Start marketing the sites with educational videos about the benefits of jogging and maybe start up a facebook group full of information in your niche.

About your optin. Well, for one thing, it's well below the fold. Like others have mentioned moving that way up is going to drastically help

Also, about your actual optin pitch. Honestly, when you mention things like wealth and stuff, I kind of get lost. I think if you make it a little more specialized it would help a lot. Also, I'd bet a lot of people read that headline and say , well I already know how to jog, how hard could it be right? But, I think if you go the route of say, -- Discover these 3 weird secrets for ......benefit, benefit, etc... Something a little more curious.

As for flipping it, well, having an income attached on there is definitely going to help along with an email list you can sell with the site. If I were you, I would focus on optimizing your optin box, maybe actually have it auto pop in when a user comes to the site(but for it to work, it really has to peak their interest and move them to action).. Then, work on building a followup full of value along with some solid recommendations(aka affiliate programs, jogging programs, equipment-amazon affiliate, etc..) and let that e-mail list make you money. Once you have that email list making you money, you stand to make a lot more money than if you just decide to fold now. ---And remember, once you get your optin and e-mail funnel working on autopilot, then focus on building traffic. More seo for related terms, video marketing, etc.

But, if you're going to do just 1 thing at all, GET THAT OPT IN FORM OFF THE FLOOR!

    Cheers

    Hey Zannix -

Great looking site, but why is your offer only at the bottom of the home page. It should be at the top AND on several internal article pages. Chances are, lots of your traffic will enter on those article pages, they have lots of long tail keyword juice. Make use of those pages to promote your offer.

There is a lot of untapped potential for other offers. You might look at dietary and nitrition info products, or perhaps affiliate offers for exercise equipment. Maybe Amazon affiliate offers ? Maybe setup a deal for drop shipping of products ?

    My two cents...

Your opt-in offer needs to be above the fold for it to be effective.

I like your site, however, it can do with more content. I would focus on the content and getting more traffic to the site.

    Cheers

9,900 searches per month and your only getting 40-50 uniques ? Google keyword tool pffft!

I would wait it out then if you dont profit - sell it.

nice site, very clean. I would also move the optin box to the top or at least have a permanent spot on the right side bar at the top of it. This way your opt in rate should increase dramatically.

Then start to work on your follow up emails.. if you can really draw in a good crowd with them and a trusted list there is potential for good conversions.

I have worked with some of the fitness product companies before. Due to aggressive and somewhat impressive marketing and advertisement tactics, people now are more interested in buying "cheap" gadgets. Providing information about jogging benefits could be helpful "once" but may not be re-read again and again, until and unless it outperforms websites like wikipedia or some big fitness portal. I hope you understand what I mean.

I would suggest selling it or convert is slowly to target fitness machines with their affiliate offers.

      You'll make some decent bucks

If you have the right type of information, people will bookmark and come back to the site/page to check and re-check.

For example, why not have a step-by-step weekly plan, including goals etc. Maybe some print-offs so visitors can record their achievements and/or goals?

What about a daily/weekly motivational post?

How about visitor success stories (how they went from not jogging to running xx minutes; how they lost weight through jogging; improved health, etc)

If you add interactive bits to the site, then people will return for more information and should keep coming back again and again.

        Just my thoughts
