I recently finished a book called Unemployed for a Living: The Inspiring True Stories of The Rich and Jobless.
Yesterday morning it was featured on the local news here in Jacksonville, FL. I was in-studio to discuss the book and talk about some of the amazing ways some of us have found to make money online. One of my favorite stories is about Linda Katz who makes over $50,000 a year selling tumbleweeds....yes tumbleweeds. People love this story and I even brought a tumbleweed into the TV station so I could use it as a prop. (TV people LOVE props!) Anyhoo, I had five minutes of airtime and, as you will see in the video, I pretty much spoke the whole time. That's one of the keys to being successful on TV and Radio appearances - GIVE AS MUCH INFO as possible. You are the expert. You are there to share your expertise. The TV folk flashed the cover of my book up on screen and set-up a link to it from their website! I offer my book for free on my website and I make money by loading it up with great affiliate programs and products. Plus, as you know, a FREE book is a great list builder! Well, they told every viewer that they could click on the link and get a FREE copy of my book! I got a TON OF TRAFFIC! When I got home I had over 150 new leads from this appearance and they are still coming in. Here is the video of my news appearance: Digg - How to Be "UNEMPLOYED for a Living." If you watch closely you will notice the following: 1. I don't mention my book once 2. I don't mention my website ever 3. I share solid information give people specific examples from the book. That's why I was able to generate so many web visitors. I gave them enough to entice them and then left them wanting more. If you sell any products that deal with health, wealth, or family issues then local TV and radio hosts are DYING to speak with you. These are the THREE BIGGEST topics of 2009 so far and will be for a long time. Come up with a segment, pitch it to local media and then have them promote your website. Here are some ideas that any IM could pitch: *5 Ways to Make Money with a Blog *5 Ways to Keep From Getting Scammed Online *5 Legitimate Online Business Opportunities *How Your Hobby Can Pay Your Mortgage *The Best Ways To Make Money in 2009 Remember, you don't have to talk about your specific website or book, but having a website will allow you to pitch yourself as an expert in your field. You will get QUALIFIED and TARGETED traffic from TV and Radio. |

Hi Mark,
Interesting TV show, I liked your self-confidence. It's good to that you got a boost in traffic. I hope that some of the visitors you got become return visitors. greg |

i LOVE how you dominated the conversation. I noticed that she was really enjoying the energy you gave out, almost like, " Thank goodness he's not boring and I don't have to ask backup questions about economy, etc etc...."
When I produced television in Orlando, I always noticed how the energy of the guests can change the atmosphere in front and behind the camera Very cool...bravo, you nailed it

Nice work!
I chuckled about the woman selling tumbleweeds, but I once bought a piece of driftwood off of eBay (I needed it for a centerpiece I'm making - and living in land-locked WV means we have none). |

Good for you Mark. Well done. Hopefully it gains traction and leads to other publicity. Then you could be the next Rich Dad :-). I heard that he wasn't even rich before that book. Talk about fake it until you make it LOL.
My TV and radio appearances last year led to a book deal with a major publisher. It also helped that I sold over 50,000 books and ebooks on my own first. Really though, if you have something that's news worthy, the sky is the limit. Get a good PR guy to keep working the story for you. The more appearances you make the easier it becomes to get other media outlet to bite. Good luck. |

Mark, you are TRULY "the man". You handled that inteview like a true pro. You ooze with just the right type of charm. I can promise, you'll be doing a lot more of them. (You aren't a pilot are you?)
Thanks VERY much for sharing your story with us. It is one of the most inspirational and motivational examples I've seen. - Russ |

Nice video. I also enjoyed your free ebook. It's always very motivating to read about folks having success online.
I also liked the way you laid out the book with the affiliate programs you were promoting. How they related to each chapter. Nice subtle way of doing that. Good job! |

Here is the pitch I sent the producer for the segment you just saw: Hi _____________, It's Mark Kaye, hope you had a great holiday! I have written a new book called "Unemployed for a Living: The Inspiring True Stories of The Rich & Jobless" which I am giving away for free on my website: MY WEBSITE HERE It's all about the incredible and amazing ways that people all over the world make money without working a traditional job. *Linda Katz from Kansas sells tumbleweeds...yes, tumbleweeds. She makes over $50,000 a year! *Alex Tew sells dots. He sells them for $1.00 each and he has sold 1,000,000 of them! *Tony Waters is a teenager with a "Skateboarding Website" that earns him over $90,000 every year...more than his parents make! 2009 is going to be rough. Jacksonville's unemployment rate is already at 7% and it's just going to go up. There will be more people in need of steady income and fewer jobs to support them. People need to understand that there are other ways to make money. I think this would be a great inspirational topic to kick off the New Year. Plus, everybody watching can get a free book! As always I will be charming, entertaining, and I'll bring some fantastic props! Let me know what you think and what time I should be at the studio. Talk to you soon, -Mark Kaye If you don't know the person already then you want to introduce yourself in the first paragraph, but this is a pretty standard pitch and should work for almost any topic. Include bullet points. Mention how it relates to their local market. Include all of your contact info too. It may not work on the first try, or you may need to follow-up with a phone call, but always remember that they need people on their show so you are actually HELPING them out!

Hi there,
How inspiring your TV interview was... I am very new to all this... I live in a little country way down under called New Zealand and up until I saw your interview I was set on finding someone elses product and then selling it on the internet, I see everyone is doing it... I just joined Warrior forum today and I have spent the last few hours just browsing through as I wasn't quite sure how everything worked with forums... its great ! I have always been a thinker, dreamer, imaginer (is that even a word?), creator without actually knowing how to put all the parts together to create a product/service that I could market .. I didn't follow through enough with ideas. Tumbleweed... who would've thought, I love it... I'm going to take a bit of a break now to jot down a few ideas ... new and old ! How Exciting!! |

In all seriousness, this is my area of expertise. Radio and TV is underutilized by Internet Marketers as an offline traffic generator. The results I share in this thread are real and I thought a few Warriors could benefit. (And this thread is 100% FREE...doesn't cost a dime!")

I got a PM from someone who wanted to know where to find email addresses for Radio producers. There is an industry site called Latest Breaking Radio and Music News - AllAccess.com v2.0. If you view the "Arbitron" section you can visit any city in the country and see a listing of all the radio stations in that market.
Also, links are provided so you can find contact info. |

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for you and really appreciate the advice, its just something I've noticed on here as of late that has been irking me and even John Taylor references this in his open letter to the admins. And to Louis, yes I realize he has shared some nice tips and that what he did is technically allowed on the forum...its just an issue that I've noticed (and apparently others have as well) has become more prevalent. Anyway...back to the discussion at hand. Enough of my threadjacking.

Hey Mark
I just watched the video... nice one! You were very professional and entertaining. Glad you got a nice bunch of traffic. Yeah, and the tumbleweed thing made me laugh, too. I wonder how many new tumbleweed sellers will spring up after that...

Good job Mark...free publicity is my FAV. I am so tired of seeing infomercials on ebay, website templates and CPA work from home lead commercials, this gives me an idea for a Internet Marketing Cable channel.

Very cool Mark. I started selling on the internet 14 years ago and looking back, it's neat how much more depth and even credibility there is today for those who make a living online then back then. It seems like the last 5 years especially have really kicked things into high gear. But hang on tight, I think things are we haven't seen anything yet!
