I was checking stats this morning and out of the blue I see TrafficFaker dot com as one of my top referrers. I looked at them and they appear to be some "bot" that allows the users to harvest URLs for whatever reason.

Does anyone know anything about them?

From what I understand there are two parts to it. The first part you supply a keyword and it searches google and extracts all the websites with that keyword. The second part then uses the urls collected (as mentioned above) and visits those sites.

However the software uses proxy servers to pretend that the visits came from various IP addresses and pretends that the visit was referred by your website. When the webmaster checks his traffic statistics he sees that there are several visits referred from your site. His curiosity then leads him to visit your site.

So it is real targeted people but they have been tricked into visiting your site.

I don't know if you would classify it as black hat or grey hat. Theoretically it sound like it could generate free traffic.

I don't understand why people would do that type of business? Isn't it that we all need qualified traffic? If they trick them, whats the benefit for the site owner?
