How can facebook overlook this!!

The viral growth of Google+ has slowed somewhat over the past few days, but my new-and-improved 1,000 surname model shows that more than 750,000 people joined the site on Monday, bringing the total user base to just under 18 million.
oh facebook, with this rate of growth, you will be crushed in months .... well, depends!

    Correct: it depends.

I'm seeing many people in other people's circles with NO POSTS, NO PROFILE & NO INTERACTION...since they first created their accounts.

It could just be the 80/20 rule.

For the 20% willing to work it - I can see some serious potential.

Business school teaches you about a concept called "Paradigm Shift"...every leader in an industry must do their best to keep an eye on where the wind is blowing for the season. It behooves Zuckerburg to pay attention to the new trend that is forming with Google+ or he will find his site/source of income becoming "obsolete".

I just recently read somewhere that nearly 80-percent (or something close to that) of Google+'s registered users are male.

While the explosive growth is certainly impressive, I don't think it has any bearing at all in terms of competition.

Google+, I believe, is simply a new toy that people are checking out because it is currently a technology/media buzz word.

People will be back to Facebook soon enough (who, by the way, has almost an even 50/50 split of males and females).

    Just my food for thought.

That's true in a way, because males are more tech nerdy/savvy than females-

But I don't think it means everyone will migrate back to Facebook.

There are TONS of people who hate Facebook because they get 10 invitations to a new app every day.

They also get tired of seeing what ALL of their friends and family are doing, or having to share with everyone anytime you post (unless you use their filter, which isn't nearly as easy as Google+'s)

Google+ is so cool because you keep your posts in the circle that you want.

So when I'm posting something to my WoW buddies, the hot chick in my marketing class won't see it!

Likewise when I say I'm going to the gym- my "Hot Girls" circle does see it.

(P.S. I'm married so I don't do that, these are just examples) :p

Hmmm, I better get my invite on Google+ activated!

FB has made some changes lately to be a bit friendlier to businesses so they're not just sitting on their duffs. But I do think Google+ will put a dent in it for the sheer fact that people will see it everywhere online.

Having a formidable competitor like Google means Face Book will take notice. FB will introduce new features, make their existing FB environment better. They are closed system but GPlus is going to be open (in terms of interoperability among other platforms). GPlus definitely solves some problems that are not addressed by FB but of course it remains to be seen how much of a traction GPlus will get in the long run.

Die hard FB fans probably won't switch but there's customer born every second. Gplus stands to capture the upcoming generation if not the current one :-)

Google+ plus isn't going anywhere long term. Facebook is all the rage and they are NOT making the same mistakes as myspace.

I bet anyone $1,000 google+ dies to facebook.

        More accurately I think.... :p

        Dear Google Plus User,

Google Plus was simply a test campaign orchestrated by the Google Spam Team, with the acknowledgement going into the process that people who want to manipulate Google's SERPs are going to flock to our website to get an account, so they can pitch their own links.

We knew in advance that the SEO community would applaud the creation of Google Plus as a great way to get great links to impress the Google algorithm.

And we did nothing to change that incorrect perception, because we saw it as an excellent opportunity to have all of the people who spam Google daily to SHOW US who they are.

To date, the only signups we have had are people in the IM community and people who were quick to drop links to their websites, before leaving to never return to our site.

First off, we want to thank you for taking the time to help us prove that you folks are so very predictable.

Secondly, we want to thank you for linking to all of your sites before leaving for the last time.

Third, we want to let you know that we have just permanently removed all of your websites from our index, because it is easier to police spammers when we can identify and block the whole lot of you in one fell swoop.

        Sincerely,

        The Google Spam Team

I don't want to give Google control of yet another one of my online activities. It is dangerous when one company has a monopoly over everything. I cannot see Facebook going anytime soon. If people get bored with Facebook it has more to do with the boring lives of their friends and family rather than the actual platform this info is being shared on. People are just getting a little bored of hearing what their families and friends are up to. It was bound to happen.

What is all this hooplah about FB being in trouble due to G+?? Boy, the Internet media has taken over just like traditional media, huh?

There's very little fact in any of these claims. People are getting bored with FB?? Really?? Is that why they're still on an upward climb regarding their membership numbers? Not too long ago they were boasting 500mil users... now its 700mil+? And that's still with a 73% active user ratio.

G+ has stuff FB doesn't?? Really? What?

    Circles = Lists
    Hang Outs = (crippled) Pages
    ?? = Pages
    ?? = Groups

I just realized that you can do the exact same thing with FB Lists as you can with G+ Circles. When you go to customize who you're sharing your status/post/link whatever with, (by clicking on the little lock and choosing 'customize')... you can type the name of a List you've previously created and only post to that List.

You create the List by clicking on 'Profile' then the edit icon above your 'Friend's List'.. at the bottom of the page that comes up, you can create as many "Lists" as you want. You add people to each List from your main Friend's List. Easy.

G+ isn't even coming out of the gate with the basic FB functionality. Its a crippled version of FB. Let's not even get into FB Pages and what they just did for the community with iFrames. G+ has what? The cute little Stream?

OK, OK.. so they're working on their Business Features ::yawn:: Any day now...

The ONLY thing I see G+ doing "better"; (if you can call it that); is the UI has some use-ability enhancements... but, they're pretty logical fixes if you look at the pioneer's layout and design.

Why hasn't FB fixed these design flaws, yet? Well, its one of those things that developers always have problems explaining to end-users. Its just not that easy with rapid growth in your way. You can't just change stuff without extensive research on how it will affect the user-base. Take that lightly and just throw stuff out there and watch your growth turn direction FAST.

FB (IMHO) is in the process of addressing their flaws; just over time. Their first move to get rid of user dependence on FBML was a very good one. Make it easier for users to generate content; you're always gonna win.

All-in-all.. I don't think FB is in any trouble. Remember, MicroSoft had Windows & .Net, Hotmail, MSN, MSN Groups, MSN Messenger & Windows Mobile when Google first got on the block. Now Google is sweating about Bing and has failed multiple times trying to infiltrate the social arena. Remember when America figured they could jump off in Viet Nam while the Soviet Union was still a major threat? We got our ass kicked.. business is war... ain't no difference.

    Just my 2¢

Well, why are your family members a fan of your page if they are sick of seeing you post about marketing? If you don't want to annoy your family members with business stuff then you simply create a fanpage for your business and only people who want to keep up to date with your business will join it. Simple.

Fanpages were created to handle the business side of things and keep your personal and business contacts separate - so use them. As for fanpages being not 'very well thought out', in what way? Can you elaborate as to what they do not do that they should do? I'd be interested to hear what the problems are. I personally think fanpages are pretty good and work well. You need to remember they have to design them in a way that they can't be exploited by all the idiots out there - otherwise Facebook wouldn't be around for very long.

Most of the people I hear complaining about Facebook fanpages tend to be those who don't know exactly how to use them or those who want to do the sorts of things Facebook are trying to prevent.

The fact that people are joining Google+ is just because they want to try it. Google is a renowned name on the internet... everyone loves them... therefore they are trying their service. Facebook on the other hand will keep surviving because Google+ doesn't have too much interesting to give... like the FB Applications, FB Games, FB Fan Pages, FB Business Pages, FB Videos etc.. this is what will keep people attached to FB unless Google+ comes up with something similar to this amusements or beyond.

Facebook will be crushed? Yeah, it really depends. But I totally don't agree with every one getting a Google +1 account.

facebook is good but so much bloody SPAM i am sick of stupid pages being made and spammy pictures and black hatters destroying it. i think Facebook should add a pay to create a page service so you have to pay a few hundred dollars to create a fan page for your business.

it needs a better monitoring system. right now its to much free advertisement and people selling cheap spammy services.

now i see the same stupid pages scattered all over facebook ...

There is no question - Facebook and Twitter will both be affected. This insane growth of Facebook has to stop - there is no reason for that. Google is much more mature in terms of marketing and they can pull off with their new social network effort. Facebook is horrible for developers - and this is one of their major weaknesses - I'd trade Facebook for something else any moment as I'm tired of them constantly breaking stuff for developers.

Google's+1 terms were written by a child or a very bad lawyer. Privacy is dead once you sign-up. Even if you log off before surfing.

No games will kill it. 80% of ppl on FB are playing stupid games. Google+ is more like Linked-in, but with less options.

Personally, I think it appeals more to IMers and hackers. It is almost as if it was built in order to discover IM sites of questionable use, artificial back-links and the predatory habits of the universal hacker.

It's a trick! A conspiracy of one. Once you join, even if you sign out, they can, (& I am sure, will) track you by IP and will find what sites are connected that way if you are not already using their web master tools. The privacy policy uses wrong legal terms in wrong places, looks like it is ambiguous and arbitrary on purpose to allow them to do anything they want.

^ Is my personal opinion only! In my estimation, the only 'power' more dangerous today is China.

    Whoa, Doggie!

Just to make sure that line about this being your personal opinion is accentuated. Don't want people making the mistake in thinking this rhetoric is actually true.

Facebook will stay. Not sure about Twitter anymore, since it turned to be a spamfest and it reminds me "the last days" of MySpace.

Google+ is growing as a business networking site. If only they'd integrate some features from LinkedIn...

G+ has the advantage of a captive audience through Gmail and Android phones.

Google has the disadvantage in that they are about to get slapped by the FTC
