New member, looking for mentors

Hi, although I'm sorta new to warriorforums I've been "lurking" for awhile...and I'm not new to message boards so I know there are sticky's and rules, I tried to give everything a thorough look so please forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong place.

I'm a 23 year old college student, and I've been wandering around the internet since I was about 18 or so...I learned about affiliates, clickbank, blogging for money, etc...and instantly I was hooked. I'm a wanna be entrepreneur, but I feel like I'm lacking one of the biggest components of success: a mentor.

I have ALOT to learn, don't get me wrong, and I am not intimidated to do that alone, however I feel like I'm missing so many of the little easy things, and that's why I don't succeed..I would love to meet someone to show me the ropes, I don't have much money at the moment, but I'll do work for free, anything to learn right now.

I want to make that step from being that goofy everyday person that is in the dark about internet marketing, and buys all the products that never work, to being a successful internet marketer.

I'm nearly about to give up because I'm tired of asking questions that never get answered, I feel like everyone who's made it is too scared to give away their "secrets" now...there's gotta be secrets right? Maybe not, I don't know anymore...

I'm just asking for a few people to help me learn, because I'm hungry to learn, and I can't stand watching the so called "gurus" collect paycheck after paycheck of gobs of money...When I am completely ready and willing to work to make even a portion of that money too...

So, if you are interested in taking on a newbie, I promise you won't be disappointed!

Thanks guys

    1. There are no "secrets"

    2. Having a mentor is not one of the biggest components of success for everyone

    3. What have you done so far?

Yes, what have you done/implemented so far? Do you have a site? Do you have a product you are promoting? Do you have some things you have tried like article writing and making videos and blogging and ???

Even those with no money can do something. And should have done something before looking for a mentor.

Anyway, that would be my suggestion for the day. If you have not done something yet, go do something today. Buy a domain, or even write and submit an article to promote a product.

    Hi Luna522

Welcome to the forum. This is the best place to learn how to make money online.

My suggestion is to do some reading on the site to familiarize yourself on the differing IM strategies. Then, to begin with I would choose a strategy, find a well reviewed free WSO on that strategy and take action on that strategy. Take a month or two to really squeeze as much out of that strategy as you can. There is nothing better than trying and failing many times to learn what to do correctly. If and when you succeed, rinse and repeat.

Try not to get caught up in the buying the next best thing WSO every week - you will get nowhere. If you are lost, do a search on the forum and then ask specific questions. People are usually very willing to help out.

PM me with more questions if you would like and I will try and point you in the right direction.

Take care - and good luck.

    Above all Take Action

    Raj

When I first started I didn't get a mentor but I treated some people as such. What I mean is I read every post that looked informative from the past year and subscribed to their blogs to read all their new posts. I found about 10 people that were writing helpful information and studied it for a few months.

This helped me go from $300 a month earnings to $3000 a month VERY quickly. Now I am working from home and loving it.

My advice would be to find bloggers who are writing about what you want to learn and subscribe to their blogs.

You know I've been doing a lot of reading on this forum for the last couple months and I can tell you: if you're looking for a mentor you've found it.

Don't think of your mentor as a person, think of it as collective knowledge; which is here in spades. Search, read and most importantly DO.

It's unreal how much available knowledge is on this forum - new guys have it so easy nowadays and WF has made me very excited to jump back in the saddle simply because the methods are about the same as they've always been - and there are more details available about those methods than ever before.

    Good luck.

Often the difference between a successful person and a failure is not one has better abilities or ideas, but the courage that one has to bet on one’s ideas, to take a calculated risk – and to act.

I will respectfully disagree with you on this. While the WF is an invaluable resource, its not a mentor. A mentor is based on the old Greek apprentice style system of one teacher and his (or her) pupil.

The collective knowledge base would be the supplement, or lacking a mentor, the substitute, but they're not the same thing. This isn't to take anything away from the WF, but your analogy is akin to saying an apple is an orange because they're both fruit.

Your argument is semantics : my argument is practicality.

        So it goes...

My argument is substantive, not semantics. You call call an apple an orange and label it semantics when the difference is pointed out, but that doesn't make the apple an orange.

You make it sound easy For some here it probably is. Does that mean it will be for you? Maybe, maybe not. Does it mean they're able to teach you what they know? Another maybe, as ability and teaching are two different skills - some have both, some don't.

I'm fairly new to IM, but longer on life experience and offline successes (and failures too - part of learning) and IM isn't much different than real life. The guys (and girls) who became overnight successes here would have, for the most part, became overnight successes at whatever they chose to do. It just happened to be IM.

My impression of many people getting into IM is that they're expecting the quick buck or the millionaire success story. Again, the same rules as in RL apply to IM: for every millionaire CEO their leagues of front line grunts and small business owners who are scraping by.

Most offline businesses either fail within the first 2 years, or take 2 years to break even. Why is IM different? The exceptions are not the rule.

I'm not saying this to discourage you. I'm just wondering if you're going into it for the right reasons. IMHO, except for those who have an ironclad will and unshakeable desire to succeed (the guys who will fail, pick themselves up, learn, and fail again before they succeed), most of those who go into IM in pursuit of the quick buck they believe everyone else is making are the people least likely to succeed.

I'm not saying that to be mean, nor harsh, nor to even pretend at knowing your motives or expectations. I'm saying this in the event that you do find the mentor, and having had that person invest their time into teaching you what they know and guiding you along the way, that you don't call it quits when you're not making X dollars in 30 days, or 60 days. A paid mentor has the luxury of shrugging his shoulders because he's been paid for his time regardless. To an unpaid mentor, the only payment they have is your sincerity and the intrinsic, rather than financial, reward that come from helping you succeed.

I think Derek Soto had a thread for free coaching. I'm not affiliated and haven't had any dealings with Derek, but he's active on WF and is helpful in his comments.

Focus and action trumps everything else.

i too am a newbie to the I-M online world. Unfortunately for me i got completely
sucked in by products and systems that i couldnt seem to adapt
maybe that was my fault or maybe the products just didnt deliver.

I think the warrior forum is a valuable supplement but i dont think it could
ever replace the advantages of a mentor.

i found out about the warrior forum from a recommendation by a couple
of guys that are mentoring me now, and i think with their help i will
be moving in the right direction, for me a mentor showing me step-by-step
    has helped me dramatically.

that being said, i have no intention of ditching warrior forum there are a lot
of good qualities with this forum.

I have to say I am from Australia but I know many big time marketers in the US and here and they are not poor if you know what I mean. So I would keep coming back here and get out your yellow notepad and start jotting ideas like mad, then go out there and implement some of these until you see something that makes you money.

There is more than one way to skin a cat, but just keep coming back here and testing and tweaking what you have learnt until you have made your first dollar. That is how I did it, and now run 3 hugely successful online businesses. It all starts with your first dollar, if you know how to make 1 dollar you know how to make $100 dollars. and if you know how to make $100 dollars, then you know how to make your first 10k and yadda yadda so on and so on. :-)
