WP Blog...What to do next?

So I started a blog about soccer news, but I have not "advertised" my site. So far I have been spending time setting up the theme and posting at least 2 unique articles per day. So my question to you is what should I do next and how? I want to build traffic, get members, comments, etc.

Should I add my sites to directories? Advertise in forums? Adsense?

Please be specific as I am new to blogging.

Please note I want to spend as little as possible, if anything.

Backlinks, backlinks, and then add some more backlinks when you are done with that.

You have the right idea ^ make sure you syndicate your content - guest post for some authority sites and blogs, most of all go to where the people in your niche hang out - Facebook, forums etc... and get your content in front of them.

    Without spamming of course!

Put adsense on your blog. You want free traffic, so guest posts would be a great idea. Also, create or buy an ebook on soccer and create articles out of it. Then post the articles to article directories with your signature and link that leads back to your site. Then take your article, and make a powerpoint presentation out of it complete with pictures of soccer players and balls. Then, upload this presentation to the slideshare and other document sharing sites. Then record your presentation with free camstudio software and upload the videos to YouTube and Tubemogul. Then create a Squidoo lens for it all. Don't forget to post your blog on facebook and use twitter to promote your site as well. This should get you plenty of free traffic. Don't forget to put adsense on their first. You need to find something to offer your visitors for free when they visit.

Can someone please explain backlinks? Is putting a link in my signature here considered a backlink?

    Also what is guest blogging?

First off, love the idea of a Soccer news site. Hope your very interested in the topic, because if its really a "news" site you'll be busy over the coming months.

You will need to get a promotion strategy in mind. If you don't want to spend money that is fine. Use forum marketing. Search Google for soccer related forums. I've already done this for you.

soccer + forums - Google Search

Sign up on the most active sites (i.e. daily posts are true evidence of an active community) and then once you make a few posts drop a link to your site in the sig file. You can use the anchor text "Soccer News" if you wish, and you will get some SEO benefit from it.

However, you'd see far more visitors if you had something like.

"Click Here For Late Breaking Soccer News."

You could even make your sig file a news headline, but that will require you changing it quite often.

Next up is backlinks. I encourage you to outsource this, however, if you wish to do it yourself simply pick up a bottle of rum (or whatever your poison is) and backlink yourself into a stupor. lol. Might want to grab a book on patience as well haha.

Make weekly top ten lists focusing on players, venues, or what have you and feature them on your site. Submit to Digg. You could also link up to that article in your sig lines on the forums. Everyone LOVES a top ten list. Just do it!

After you submit to Digg, hit up fiverr and try to get some legit diggs to the post. Digg is a finicky beast and sometimes you need a little nudge to get the viral wheels spinning. This will help build your site up in the eyes of those who are interested in the topic.

If you can find some sports site directories then by all means submit your site. You can also try and do some guest posts on a related site in your niche. Try reaching out and see what happens. The worst that could happen is that they tell you NO!

That's all for now. Whatever you do, write your plan down or type it up... and stick to it. Most people struggle to rank and build up traffic because they don't give one technique enough time.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

I think I will recruit some members first and have them help me advertise as well.

Also, what is the best site to send your link to hundreds of directories?
