Clickbank: EUDD failed deposit

Hi,

This week I've had two separate purchases for a clickbank product of mine and a day later a refund ticket was opened and then granted for this reason:

TICKET INFORMATION

Ticket Number: 4351274
Creation Date: 07/14/2011 6:24 AM PDT
Ticket Type: REFUND
Ticket Status: OPEN
Reason Selected: EUDD Failed Deposit

I've had no contact from the buyer, it sounds like it could be a payment issue...

I can find anything on Google, does anyone know what this is and how I can prevent it?

Thanks
Lee

EUDD apparently means it is due to the European Union Data Directive

    Failed Deposit?

That means the instrument was recognized as legitimate, but won't be honored.

Well, I found a reference to failed deposit which s so bad that I don't even want to try to relay it. The EUDD apparently relates to personal data. That implies that either clickbank is doing something wrog, or these instruments are forged or stolen.

Either way, I would say ask clickbank for the reason, and post it here. MAYBE they can help you.

Don't even try to guess what it is... Just call ClickBank right away and see what this is all about. If someone bought your product and then this came up maybe there is some kind of scam to get free products going around and ClickBank needs to be aware of this in order to help you solve this problem.

      Hi,

I thought I updated this post already, I must have forgotten.

This was the response I received from CB support which explains what happened but there's no way I can prevent it. Oh well, life goes on.

      "Hello Lee,

ELV is a form of electronic payment that is available to German and Austrian customers. In these cases, the authorizations for the payments failed, which is why the orders were automatically refunded. There is nothing we can do to ensure that these charges aren't refunded. The customers just need to make sure the deposits do not fail.

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

      Best regards,

      Tessa

    Thanks for the response whamsoft.

Does this mean the customer still got access to the product if it was a download?

If they were allowed to download the product and then get a refund the next day then its a bit out of order.

Same thing just happened to me this morning. A Clickbank Refund request came through and 2 minutes later another email stating Refund ticket: Closed and the refund was apparently granted. Reason? EUDD Failed deposit.

This order was placed yesterday so I think the customer did get access to the product. The name on the order was: Donald Chump

I hope this is not going around.

I think many people know they can get away with this as its happened to me three times now.

I emailed Clickbank and they sent me the same reply as above and didnt seem to care that the customer got the product without paying for it.

As more and more people discover this loophole then clickbank will be a laughing stock.

They can't prevent it. It's not their fault. That's how debit cards work, for online purchases. From the vendor's perspective, in "financial outcome terms" this is more or less the same as someone trying to buy with a stolen credit-card that's not yet reported stolen: the third-party purchase was kind of made, but he'll never get his money.

This isn't a "loophole", and it's something that makes no difference at all. Anyone can buy a ClickBank product with any credit-card and request a refund right away, anyway: those are ClickBank's guarantee terms, and it's because of the ease of that, and its promotion as such, that it's so easy to sell ClickBank products.

It is a "loophole" in the sense that the customer never "paid" for the product. The charge never went through, but they did get access to the product. That is why the refund is issued so quickly "from" my account. The customer didn't request the refund. The charge just didn't propogate and you don't know this until 24 hours later. That's when the refunds occur.

The reason this isn't a typical refund, is that you never get to contest it. Most Clickbank refunds you get to contest it and correspond with the buyer. In these EUDD cases, you never have a say in whether or not they get the refund. There is never a case open that you can respond to. Just an email stating that there was a refund request (which is procedure) and then an immediate email 2 hours later stating that the refund was given.

I never even got a chance to respond. Usually refunds occur the day after the initial request and you have a chance to notate it, contest, or confirm.

In this case the reason for the refund given is: EUDD failed deposit. There is never a request from the buyer stating why they want the refund. Its a technical issue not a "buyer didn't like it" issue.

Maybe they never got access to the product. I don't know. I hope they didn't. If this is indeed a loophole, Clickbank needs to put procedure in place to "hold" the download until the charge clears.
