How are these sites getting 10s of 1000s of links?

onlinecasinobluebook.com has over 97000 links... addictinggames.com has over 3,000,000! how are these sites getting all these links? Im a curious noob. any input is greatly appreciated.

    There are automated programs that automatically find sites and create blog comments and forum entries in huge volumes, those flatter-spam blog posts come from these tools. These links can be bought for less than 1 penny each.
    Just glancing at the first one, I saw few links from pages discussion related topics. The value of such links is questionable.
    Top ranked sites buy links too but in prime locations on relevant pages directly from the site owner. I have seen rental prices on pr-7 pages links going for north of $1000/mo, highlighting the point that not all links are the same.

    I don't know about that other site, but AddictingGames's backlinks are probably largely due to natural backlinking (people linking to their site). It's been an established and popular site for a very long time.

    Specifically, I know a good strategy for this exact reason: badges.

    A lot of Myspace template sites were really big on this because every one of those little glitter buttons and crap had a link back to the main website. There were some that easily amassed thousands of links.

    People were doing this link building on Flickr as well. They'd have little images like thumbs up for people's pics; each linked back.

    You could replicate it in some ways. If you held a contest you could let people embed a badge onto their website (think PowerAge) and this would work.
