How to market offline business

I am working with someone who has a business steaming ice dams off roofs in the winter time. It's good insurance work and leads to more construction/repair work for the damage water does as a result of these ice dams. Does anyone have some good ebooks or posts that can lead me into how to advertise for him? I am still learning at this. Thanks for any help.

Offline and online can work well at the local level.

I run an offline business and market it pretty much exlcusively online. Same principles apply at the local level as the global level for SEO and conversion. However, it's easier at the local level (unless in a huge city and hugely competitive industry). You just target geographic locations - city, neighborhoods, state/prov, counties, etc. with the business industry.

Do some extensive keyword research for the business generally and then add local keywords to them and localize the site.

This is a good start. You'll also want to set up a Google Places listing and optimize the heck out of it (content, reviews, etc.).

Never forget testing conversion. Once your client gets traffic, be sure it converts.

I offer a free ebook at the site in my sig (sorry mods if this breaches the rules, just trying to help).
