What are Google Alerts for?

I have set Google alerts for my websites? I get an email each day for that. I just want to know is there any way I can use them to enhance my site's ranking and traffic?

They can be used for a variety of purposes. If you want content for your site, you can use them to get information on the latest news related to your keyword. People also use them to find out when someone mentions their name, website or company anywhere on the internet.

You can use it for several purposes. If you're into SEO, it's great to put alerts on related keywords to your site and then you can actually find sites that are "up and coming". These sites will generally climb the rankings and you might end up with valuable backlinks if you go for it.

If you're launching a new site you could also put an alert to see when your own site has made it into the listings.

Basically, Google Alerts are there to monitor anything on the Web especially in relation to your query or what you're interested in. It checks regularly to see if there are new results for your query and sends to your email.

    You can use it to

*keep you up to date on a competitors or industry
*keep you up to date about other products
    * you can also keep track of your site's standing

    • I thought this was an interesting tip:

"This exploits the fact that most popular bloggers have Google alerts set up for their website and name. Start linking out to some famous bloggers and see what happens. In most cases you will see that person you linked to come around to your blog within 24 hours to check it out. It's a great way to introduce yourself to people you want to connect with. You can build quite a reputation for yourself in a short amount of time by linking out to other bloggers you respect. This is hugely important to the new blogger trying to make a splash in the blogosphere."

Okay, I'm going to link to Seth Godin and see if anything happens. :-)
