Quick amazon question

If i have a site that has a subdomain, do I have to enter the url of the subdomain in my amazon associates acount somewhere to get credit for someone clicking an affiliate link from that subdomain? if so, where do I do this? I couldnt find where to add my websites in the amazon associates site.

I have been missing some clickthroughs from friends who go to my website and click on one of my links before going to amazon to do their shopping and I am not getting credit for their purchases and i am kind of worried. anyone else have any experience in this?

No, you don't have to do this. As long as your affiliate ID is in the link ([yourname-20] they usually look like) then your clicks will be tracked and you will be credited.

      ok thanks. good to know

any idea why I am not getting credit on some items?
they were items that were sold and shipped by amazon and not third parties.
      does amazon shave commission leads?

The credit for a sale depends on your affiliate link containing your Amazon account information. Check your links to see whether your account info is contained in them. If it is and you're not getting credit for sales, contact support, as there might be an issue with your account.

Where might I find the number (or email) for support? I am not seeing it on the amazon associates page

If I understand this correctly, your friends and family go to your site and click through to amazon using one of your links, Thus you get the 4% commission on their total purchases.

I think there's something in the amazon TOS about doing this (don't quote me on that, I haven't read it in 3 years)

As for your question about why you aren't getting the commissions for your friends and family's purchases; I would say that it probably has something to do with the Amazon.com Tracking Cookie.

    Amazon Commissions Work Like This:

When a customer clicks your affiliate link to buy something from amazon they download a cookie containing a tracker that keeps track of what said customer buys.

This cookie (I believe) stays active for 24hrs unless the customer clicks on another affiliate link before the 24hr window is over.

If the customer does click on a alternate affiliate link (one not belonging to you) and buys something on amazon (even if its the same thing you were advertising); The commission goes to the other affiliate.

Reason For You Not Getting The Commission, even if you were the last affiliate:

    1. The customer has cookies turned off on their browser: if the cookies are turned off then the browser will not allow amazon to download the tracker onto the customers computer (most likely)

    2. The 24hr Window is over

    3. Your Amazon link isn't set up correctly (only applicable if you uses some type of amazon widget)

    4. Along the same lines as the first reason, the customer could have one of the better antivirus or firewall programs that don't allow trackers.

Have not read them in a while but I believe Amazons TOS does not allow you to buy from your own link nor do they let you direct friends or familly to buy from your links if that does happen and they know you are not credited with sales.

Not sure how they can track that with the exception of yourself but if you call them and let them know I think you will be told you are breaking TOS
