Do You Buy Marketing and Business Books?

I picked up a bunch of books today at the Borders going out of business sale. My office is jammed with physical books - which I greatly prefer to digital versions.

Am I a dinosaur and you're all digital? Or do you also take comfort in physical books?

If you're a dinosaur so am I ... there's nothing like the feel of a real book in your hands. Unfortunately there are no Borders stores anywhere near me. Might be time for a road trip! Got any idea when the sale ends?

    Guess I'll go Google it.

I buy marketing and business books all the time. I also take college courses on both whenever I can.

Fellow dinosaur. I was one of those kids who always had her head buried in a book and I'm still that way. I think there are even pictures of me as a kid where all you could see were my eyes over the top of a book. I do all kinds of reading online but it's never relaxing. Relaxing reading comes from holding a book in my hand - soft cover, hard cover, whatever - I just want to be able to turn the pages.

I am visually impaired, so I prefer the digital versions. My computer reads them to me at 200 words per minute. If I get the physical version, then I have to scan the pages one at a time which takes a while.

I prefer paper books as well. I collect antique business books and most of the information in them is just as relevant now as it was a hundred years ago, just the terms have changed.

I'm a 35 year old OLD man I guess, because I much prefer a book to digital.

I also can't write out good email messages or sales pages from the computer either. I have to write them out by hand with a pencil and wide ruled notebook, then have my assistant make out my chicken scratches and recopy it into a word document that I can then turn into my online sales copy.

Takes a bit of time, but for me it's the only way and well worth it. I used to think I was sort of odd, but I've talked to a number of the best copywriters and writers (fiction types) in the world who have told me they have to do the same thing, that made me feel a little better.

Something about feeling the book in your hand...though, like I mentioned before, once pdfs have highlighting/majic marker capabalities built in, then, maybe, I can contribute to saving a tree or 2

I have a Nook(which is the B&N ebook reader), and I do get a lot of ebooks for it. I thought it would help control my book addiction, but I buy just as many physical books as before-now I just spend more :p

The bulk of my business/investing books are physical-I tend to highlight and write notes in the margins.

Books - love 'em, so does my wife. There are over 3,000 books in our house.

When I read business and marketing books I usually have a yellow highlighter in hand. And if they are ebooks I often print them out.

Xpedx and Arvy office supply sells pre-punched (drilled) 3-hole paper. I print on that and stick the ebook in a 3-ring binder from Sam's Club. Now I can highlight to my heart's content.

I am a die-hard paperback book reader, also.

The idea of reading a novel on an electronic device does not appeal to me one bit.

I might eventually warm up to reading reference books and those I'm reading for purely utilitarian purposes - to extract the information - on a Kindle. But not yet.

No . you are not a dinosaur .

I think i have higher tendency to read a book if it is a physical book than digital book

On some occasions ,There are so many things to distract me when am on my computer that stops me from completing a digital book

I have learnt so much from physical . sometimes you just a book you can hold

Physical Books is the way for me. I am pretty short sighted and I hate reading stuff online so I either print it off or simply stick to the traditional format

Nothing better than a good old fashioned BOOK! :p

If you're a dinosaur, we'll be sharing the tar pit...

I haven't tried a Kindle or similar product yet, but I much prefer a physical book to reading on a computer screen.

For purely recreational reading, give me the dead-tree version every time...

Hooray for fellow dinosaurs! There's nothing like sitting down with a good book. A kindle will never take the place of physical books. I finally turned my "formal" living room into a library because I ran out of places to put them all.

I also print out ebooks. Easier to read that way and I can make notes in the margins.

But I did crack and get a kindle for travel. I always made my carry-on too heavy because I couldn't decide for sure what I'd want to read so I'd overload it with 5 or 6 books...lol

I began reading books at age 3 and have never stopped. I read several books a week - always the physical version. If I buy a marketing ebook - I print it out and then read it.

I have a shelf where printed out business/marketing ebooks are placed in 3-ring binders. Not nearly as good looking as a real book.

I don't have a Kindle or Nook - I've considered them but I prefer "real" books.

And they don't always fit on the shelf.

I've been contemplating taking some of the useful pdfs, submitting them to Amazon books, ordering myself a copy for a few bucks so I have a real book, then deleting the listing.

I buy books constantly. I have books everywhere. By my bed, by the bath, by the toilet, in the car, by the front door - and of course in lots of boxes and bookcases.

I buy books every week. I love to read.

I like pdfs but I also love going to Barnes and Nobles to sit with chai, look at a book and purchase it if it's interesting. There is something very nice about sitting on the porch with an ice tea and a book in a lounge chair that just doesn't seem the same on a screen.

Actually I prefer physical books too. If I were to read an eBook, it'd
have to be somewhat short. I cannot stare at a screen for hours and
still pay attention. I actually bought two books today off of Amazon,
both of which are related to psychology.

So did I. I really stocked up on a bunch of books I've been dying to read and others to re-read.

Though I definitely have more digital products on my hard drives, I still have quite a library of business, marketing, and self development books. I also prefer physical hard books. I just like being able to hold them and carry them around with me without having to worry about a digital device.

Besides I'm a klutz and read a lot in my pool. A book is much easier to replace than a tablet or a laptop. lol

    Great comfort.

I like my "pound of paper".

I very strongly prefer physical books.

On a different but related note, I also trust "orthodox publishers", collectively, overwhelmingly more than online publishers, because of the enormous investments they make in their publications, which tends to predicate professional editing, peer-review, genuine authorial expertise, and so on. Digital-only books have, of course not universally but overall, far less quality control in all the stages of their production.

Wouldn't it be confusing if you buy too many books on marketing? I mean their ideas will all be different, how would you be able to focus on one topic, and make money from it if you buy many books?

I bought a lot of business books before. I was so overwhelmed with the different ideas they gave that I don't know how to start anymore

I have a ton of both. When I get an ebook, if it's really good, I usually
print it out and mark it up.

I also mark up regular physical books... although I still feel uneasy
doing that because books still feel somewhat "sacred" to me. I also
realize that when I mark up books autographed by the author that
I'm probably destroying chances of that book becoming a collectible.

I also personally publish a lot of books on Amazon Kindle... but don't
    own a Kindle yet

I'm also a lover of the printed book. And like Willie, I treat them with respect. I used to be close to someone who would fold the corners of pages to mark her place in a book. Ugh. It would literally make my stomach flutter to see that.

I've read about a dozen books in the last couple of months. One of them was really a surprise to me. Quantum physics relating to string theory. I'm not much of a science guy but this book blew me away. And as a writer, I find that if I ever get stuck for something to write, reading helps get the words flowing again. I think I might be a Brontosaurus.
