Is List Building Only For The IM Niche?

Hey guys,

I've been thinking of building a list for other niches which are not IM based. Does anyone here have a list in other niches, say insurance, education or health?

Does it convert as well as blasting your IM list?

I'm interested to see what kind of response you'll get. I am sure it will be yes for the most part. I've often asked myself how to best use a list for niches outside of IM or product specific niches where the life cycle of the sale is short and/or there are limited opportunities for additional sales. Looking forward to reading the feedback.

All of my lists are in other niches actually. My most successful niche is a list dedicated to those interested in high heels shoes. I promote affiliate links under the guise of "coupon codes."

I have a simple squeeze page and use forum marketing to drive traffic to the page. Majority are women [names], but some men are on the list as well.

I email once on Monday and again on Friday. Friday's are infinitely more profitable as it is payday for most people here in the United States. I just launched a new set of coupon codes given exclusively to me because I am a big performer for a certain merchant.

It's taken about two year, but now I can officially tell my potential subscribers that they are GUARANTEED to get coupon codes not available anywhere else. That, my friend is what I call hustling for them sales!

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

      I have 8 lists for 8 niches.

      There's no other (sensible) way.

I have no real experience of the internet marketing or make money online niches and can't comment about those.

But the short answer to your question is "no": list-building is emphatically not only for the IM niche!

Hmmmmm ... I knew I liked you. Feel free to p.m. me a link to your squeeze/opt-in page.

Of course it isn't only for IM!

You HAVE to build a list.. doesn't matter what niche, once you have a list you can monetize it (without IM products then ofcourse )!

I was thinking different. I was wondering if building a list in the IM niche is as profitable as building a list in other non-IM niches because building a list in non-competitive non-IM niches is like eating a whole restaurant worth of food alone.

Yeah definitely get a list going in all other niches.

Is also likely to be easier getting hold of the primary email addresses in niches where the subscribers are non IM savvy.

As when trying to gain subscribers in the IM niche, many people will put in their 3rd of 4th email address if they are opting in to your list and know to expect an autoresponder sequence.

But in other niches, people may not have all these back-up email addresses and will just give you their main email to get hold of the information you are promising.

List building is for every niche that exists.

Obviously, profitability and the way you handle each one will be different.

List building is simply compiling a group of contacts that are all interested in the same thing...whatever it is.

You can build a list for any niche. You probably can't maximise your optins by doing IMswaps or releasing a WSO since they IM related niches only, but you probably get less people competing with you in a non-im niche.

you can build a list for any niche for sure.

one thing that is different is that "how to internet marketing" is more of an evergreen niche. meaning that the people on your lead list will probably still be trying to make money online in 6 months so you may be able to sell them something then.

but if you build a list of health insurance leads, the leads have a shorter life span of value. 6 months from now many of those have either bought health insurance or they are no longer interested for whatever reason.

another major difference is that your IM list is by default a list of people trying to make money on the internet, and many of those are trying to do so by telling(selling to) other how to do so. in effect you get a more viral affect from IM products than you will in any other niche.

I know I will be flamed like hell but I've not had luck with lists as it slows the prospect's goal of solving their problem immediately (yes I know it does not have to be a one time buyer but from what I have experienced, this is the case). This is the same for 3 niches (non IM). Saying that, I am on several IM lists that I have bought products due to their recommendations. Don't know what to conclude except that I have not seen any other niches that will produce the list effect besides IM. Not yet, I am hopeful another market will tho.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

the thing with lists is that you have to provide a good deal of added value to the prospect or you are correct you just get in the way of the prospect solving their issue. the added value can be expert reviews, ways to use a product better, ways to save money when buying a product, and many others, but you have to add value.

I am in 8 niches at the moment, and have to say list building works great in IM, but not as good as in other niches.

Infact I do not care who comes in here and blasts their theories, I have found list building is essential to having a self sustaining and highly profitable business online. Your whole world will change when you take action and do this properly. But that is the key to take action.

      Hi Zeb,

Good question. List building is not only for the internet marketing niche. I have all kinds of email lists. Some convert better, some convert worse. Conversion is really a matter of how targeted your audience is, and your ability to get them to click any buy.

As an example of a non IM list imagine the pregnancy niche. You have your initial product that your advertising, but what do you think the suscriber is going to be interested in 9 months, or a year or two. I can think of literally hundreds if not thousands of products that I could market to this individual. Baby strollers, or bottles, or bibs. And in a year or two, how about toddler cloths, or a teach your baby to walk course. And if this person bought your product on pregnancy then you have found gold. A targeted buyer. And targeted buyers are what your looking for.

I think that it is all about growing with your list. Put yourself in a subscriber's shoes, and try to envision what they might be interested in and why.

This is something that I have wondered about for as long as I can remember. The coupon thing for shoes makes sense, but not hard to duplicate as far as I can tell. But what do you have to offer folks if they bought your Clickbank product. If that didn't solve their problem, then I can't see them trusting you for a second shot. Or my blog in the mortgage niche. I can't see what I can keep offering them to generate repeat sales. I have not tried to build a list for that site. It isn't getting any traffic anyway, so far.

Yes it is possible to build a list for a non-IM niche. Companies do that all the time. Think about any realtors, travel agencies, etc that have you on their list.

List building is definitely possible and worthwhile in other niches. The thing you might want to consider though if you are just starting out is whether or not you will want to do joint ventures with other people at some point.

If so, you may want to think about how easy it is to find people with sizable lists in the areas you are thinking of. Clearly, the smaller the niche, the harder it is to get any decent volume yourself, let alone find other people with lists that you can leverage.

I'm not sure if I understand your question. You mean you want to have a list of niches where you will not sell anything (IM based)? If yes, their question would be what's your purpose? Do you just want to share the same traffic? It is a good idea though you need to inform them what is your goal for linking and your added value to their current and future visitors?
