This happens all the time when people think they smell the next "big thing". :p
As a rule, 99% of those names will then be dropped.

Not too sure about what's gonna happen with these kind of domains but a ton of these have been getting snatched up in the recent month or so. I myself purchased about 12 gplus domain names. Guess we will just have to wait and see. It sure would be nice to strike some gold lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people with g+ domains get cease and desist letters from Google lawyers.

lol. I don't think google would bother as long as these guys are not on the spot yet. However, I wouldn't be shocked. Facebook has been giving a hard time to any website trying to sell fans or exchange them, I guess it affect their ads

Not sure I agree but if its got Google in the domain I agree but since you cannot have the + character in a domain and since gplus is not trademarked I see no reason why anyone would get a cease and desist.

IN fact one site gplus.to is already trying to grab the market for shortening the g+ domains and making it shorter and I also read an article from ZDnet about the fact that people are already looking for ways to shorten and make easy to remember there g+ domain.

so gplus domains just might turn out to be useful to big corporations trying to get memorable gplus domains for advertising.

Could be a complete miss but for $10 its worth a shot although its already hard to find decent ones LOL so someone thinks it might be a hit.

I just looked it up. G plus, Gplus, G-Plus and other variations are all trademarked (not by Google, but they are trademarks). So the C&D wouldn't come from Google, but folks wouldn't be totally immune to getting one, depending on what they're doing with the domains.

This may be true, but it's important to understand that a trademark only applies to the specific industry it was established for. So "gplus" can be a trademark owned by many different entities, including Google. It's also important to understand that a trademark does NOT have to be officially registered to be considered the possession of the entity using it. If it is a term that is publicly recognized, it is a trademark (registered or not). Therefore, anyone registering "gplus" domains can be sent a cease and desist by various entities, depending on how that domain is being used.

Yep, I completely agree. That's why I used the phrase depending on what they're doing with the domains, just to make it clear that it depends on how the domain is used.

However, I think the overall point we're both trying to make is that you can get caught if you use someone else's intellectual property, trademarks, etc. You can can start receiving letters from lawyers... even if they don't come from the company you thought they'd be coming from.

I purchased about 30 domain names myself. I got both the (googleplus) and (gplus) version. Google hasn't taken Georg's googlesniper site down, but just in case I bought both. I thought of some products that have been launched in the past like hyperfbtraffic and got hypergptraffic. There are still some good ones available, but you have to act now.

Hey, who knows? Good for them if this will pan out, and it's a good lesson if it
      doesn't.

Some lessons are probably best learned the hard way...
