reusing youtube videos

Hi guys,

I am wondering if it is legal/OK to rip off a youtube video, watermark it with your website and re-upload it to youtube.

I know many marketers do this, but I want to get an idea first before doing it.

thanks

    NO! Its not ok.

As a video blogger on youtube, I take great offense when I see people using my videos as their own content.

When I find one of my videos on another account, I file a DCMA take down notice with youtube and hopefully get a copyright infringement warning issued to the persons account.

Youtube has a 3 warning policy - if your account gets 3 warnings, the account is suspended.

    Ummm no, it is illegal.

Here's a quick tip for you. Don't base your decisions off what other marketers are doing. Base them off the law.

Reusing someone elses copyrighted material has always, and will always, be illegal.

      Hi,

I know someone who was doing something similar with Dog Training, his business was going great guns until he got a letter from Cesar Milan's lawyers.

He had to quickly find a new niche!

no need to get offended man , I produce my own videos all the time . I am a 3D animator and work with graphics, so i do not need anyone else stuff to do my videos. mine are by far better quality

I was just wondering, since I hear lots of marketers say this and i was wondering if i am going the long/hard way by creating videos that takes hours of my time where as i can have a quick fix for my CPA links through this method

in fact some of the WSO recomend this tip of download watermark and re-upload
    so i got curious

    thanks for your replies

Well here's a very quick question that should sort out the problem for you. How would you like it if someone did the same with YOUR video work - work that you had spent hours to create?

Being a 3D animator, you of all people shouldn't really need to ask this question.

My apologies, I meant to come across as sounding firm, and not offended.

I see this same exact question asked from time to time here in warriorforum. And what gets me, a lot of people have no problem stealing the work of someone else.

    @WillR

I am new to video marketing and I am only checking what other people do so that I am not missing on something.

as you have noticed I did not go and do it, I am asking about it
this method did seem wrong to me hence I thought of asking people on the forum about their opinion.

    thanks

Sorry, didn't mean to sound too harsh. I would much rather you come here and ask the question before doing it. It shows you have some integrity.

As you mentioned there are several WSO's that explain this exact technique of taking other people's videos and re-using them. Whilst there are a lot of people out there doing it and the chances of you getting caught are fairly slim, it is still illegal.

Think of it like drink driving. There's plenty of people doing it but it's still illegal... and not worth it for that one time you do get caught.

well this is what made me wonder really.
You see I take anything coming from warrior forum as 'the right way of doing stuff'.

so when I read the WSO recommending this, i thought, well surely these people know what they are talking about, and if they are recommending it then there must be something to it.

        apparently not

There might be just 1 exception to using other people's content in your own videos...

Look for videos which have the Creative Commons Attribution License.

Here's a page on YouTube all about it.
    http://www.youtube.com/t/creative_commons

You can re-use other people's content mixed in with your own but you have to give them an attribution. This only applies if they've applied this license to their video.
