Best way to squeeze subscribers with an aweber pop-up??

Hey guys,

I'm an associate editor for a medium sized blog, and as a growth move, we've decided to release a compelling ebook for our current, and future, readers.

Now, i have little to no experience with this and I'm looking to market this for the best kind of results. I've been seeing these aweber pop-up opt-in boxes everywhere, and I'm thinking about using something like that, but from what I understand I need a separate plugin for that. What kind of money/month am I looking at? Is worth it (for those of you who have launched something similar for a non-marketing-make-money-online-etc blog)?

Also, seeing how I'm running a high traffic blog, with newsy/featured kind of content, I'm inclined to think that a facebook fan on our page would be more valuable than just another e-mail. We don't sell stuff. Questions is, how could I manage to hand out the e-book only to people who are fans of our facebook page? Also, do you believe this would be a smarter move than just gathering e-mails?

Thanks in advance!

  • I have no experience with using popovers on blogs, so I can't speak to that.

For your eBook distribution issue, Google "pay with a like". I think you'll find the answer you seek.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the Google thing.

    1. You don't need a plugin to have an aweber popup. Just paste the code aweber gives you into the template file you want the popup to appear.
(you may need, eventually, a plugin, if you want to do way more than just having the popup after a few seconds, for example...)

    2. FB. Don't make it an either or issue. You can build your list and you can have a FB page, too.

    3. On FB pages you can have a setting (you were told to google for it) when instead of giving you their email (like with optin) visitors "pay you" with clicking on the Like button and the source/download page reveals only for those the like your page.
