Once an account was verified as the business owner, you cannot remove it, unless you have the password for it. Regardless, you could still verify the ownership over the listing via another account.

When you get to the screen that asks you if you want to claim the existing listing, claim it as it may or may not have an impact on getting listed quicker. You are able to add your email address and anything else but the verification by phone or post card is still the option.Eventually the listings will get merged and your most recent claims verification will be shown in the listings results.

OK in order to claim a listing that is yours but you dont have access to it this is the best way

1. Go to Google Places
2. Add a new listing and enter the exact way even phone numbers the way the address is ....COPY everything the way it is in the listing currently
wait the 2 weeks for the VERIFICATION letter enter the PIN wait 2 days and change what you want from NOW your LISTING

ive done this a few times from people who stole my listing a few weeks back and it works

Dont try to change anything till after you get VERIFIED


3. It will take you to another screen where you should see the business you want to claim
4. Click submit and it should take you to the verification process.
