Do You Track Your Subscriber Sources?

I was looking through my list stats the other day and I noticed that
a lot of new subscribers came from one particular source.

It prompted a question or three..

  1. Do you track your optins?
  2. Do you know where each of subscibers joined your newsletter?
  3. Do you know the true cost of a subscriber from each source?

I think it is important to know where they come from so that you can further optimize them & get better rates in opt ins from that particular source.

I do this all the time, this alerts me to new opportunities.

If I see something different, which I have in the past I jump on it fast.

No knowing where and how your traffic comes to you leaves money on the table.

I'm not talking about traffic or SEO.

I'm talking about tracking sign ups to a newsletter or
        ezine.

For example, where people sign up through co-registration,
an optin form of a pop-up, an optin form within the copy
of a salesletter or from a blog.

And if I may be so bold...
    4. Do you know how to?

Tracking my optins is done on a weekly basis.
I check if any competitors subscribed
I delete all the bogus addresses
I delete all email addresses from .ru
I segment into name provided and no name
No name list gets a friendly email to update their profile
