Credit Card For Paypal ?

Hello, I'm very new in this credit card stuff,I wanted to ask which credit card peoples are using and why, I'm gonna get a visa or mastercard soon but I'm not sure if I'm making the right choice.

For exemple I was thinking about interest rates and commissions, for peoples like affiliates that are gonna get alot of payments, should I look for a company with low interest rates and comissions to avoid wasting too much money ?

Also I'm not even sure if i qualify to have a credit card.. my father told me once that you need to be employed or have a salary coming each month.

But from what I read on this website it does'nt seem like you need that.

Also little newbie question, I see there is a limit of amount of you can spend per month(3000$. 5000$ max) but is there a limit of the amount you can put on it ?

Should i go for a prepaid mastercard, is it good ? i've just read the wikipedia section about it but it did'nt help me much, it's why I thought bout posting here and ask experienced IM'ers

For exemple here is the webpage of my local bank about prepaid mastercard:

http://www.bcge.ch/index.php?SubMenu=particuliers&SubSubMenu=cartes&S ubSubSubMenu=carte&label_x=basic_prepaid⟨=en&commu n=0

what's the drawback, a higher commission ? pay 3.5 CHF to load it ?

Otherwise there is a basic VISA :

: http://www.bcge.ch/index.php?SubMenu=particuliers&SubSubMenu=cartes&S ubSubSubMenu=carte&label_x=carte_basic⟨=en&commun= 0

Apparently first year is free then 20$ per year, it sounds decent and cheap .

I wanted to ask what solutions peoples are using and if they can recommend me something, or even comment the offers on my links, thanks alot for any help because im starting to feel really lost ..

PS: Also in order to get payments on PayPal you need to have an activated"linked" account right ? or is it just some company that require it.

You are messing pretty much everything in your post...

Affiliates commissions have NOTHING to do with your credit card.

And if you buy something with a credit card but you do pay the whole amount when the due date is - you will never pay any interest to the credit card company.

Next, never ask financial (and legal) advice in an open forum.

Go to your local bank and ask them about your choices.

re: PS - read the Paypal TOS.

What about using Paypal with a credit card for the sole purpose of getting paid your affiliate commission, then you transfer to your bank account.

Because to have a linked Paypal account I need a credit card..

I contacted my bank and they said I need a credit card to link to paypal (of course).

Why would'nt I ask such advices on an open forum ?! For exemple Basic Visa or Prepaid mastercard ..I have no idea which fits the best for my use, and you bet if i ask my bank about it they will recommend whichever gives them the more profit, you start to see why I want suggestions from a third party ?

Sorry, I think you should NOT have get a credit card because you don't understand how it works. Period.

Nobody ever gets paid on their credit cards. That's a complete nonsense.
If you get affiliate commissions via Paypal that goes and stays in your paypal account. No, it does NOT go to your credit card... Ever.

        No, I don't.
You are in a different country. ON a different continent.
Your country's regulation of banks and credit cards are different than where I live.

And as I said earlier: always pay in time whatever you bought with a credit card and they will never have a profit from your "pocket". The merchant pays the transaction fees.

This may be so, yes. But you need to check PayPal's TOS as they relate to Switzerland, because these things can (surprisingly?) vary from country to country. But presumably there's a paypal.ch site at which you can check?

Well ... it's terribly easy on matters like this for people to advise you with the best of intentions, but fail to appreciate the significance of something about your circumstances/situation, and inadvertently screw up. And you need to bear that in mind, on subjects like this.

For example, my instincts, when I read your initial post above were to disagree entirely with your father's opinion that you need a job and/or an income to get a credit-card. Because in England, where I live, that's by no means true. But then I did a little bit of internet browsing of financial sites and forums for a minute or two and now I'm much less sure. It may be that in Switzerland you really do need a job and/or income to get a credit-card. But only someone who lives locally and has been in your position can really be helpful to you. And in principle, on financial/legal subjects it's better to find out information yourself, from the appropriate sources, than to depend on second-hand information. Things can change, too, and people can easily give slightly out-of-date advice - and even that can turn out to be a major inconvenience.

Maybe you need a pre-paid credit-card, maybe not.

I know you can get "virtual credit-cards" through some companies, but it's often complicated to decide whether or not PayPal will accept them.

In any case, as Istvan says, this has nothing to do with your affiliate commissions in themselves. You may just need it in order to have a verified PayPal account into which they can be paid, I think? But then again, you may be able to link a PayPal account to your bank account and not need a credit-card per se, at all. I don't know. (And neither - probably - does anyone else who advises you here).

If all you want the credit-card for is for PayPal account-opening/upgrading purposes, you might be well advised just to go for the cheapest one, and whenever (if ever) you use it, pay off the balance in full as soon as you get the bill, and that way you won't ever be paying interest.

For a country with such a sophisticated and famous banking system, I'm getting the impression (from only a quick look-around, I admit) that Switzerland may perhaps a little "behind" some other European countries in terms of credit-card availability? Good luck!

Not sure if you're able to do this in your country, but how about getting a savings account and a debit card? You can verify your Paypal (to lift the limits) with either a CHECKING or SAVINGS account.

Personally, I don't like having my credit card on Paypal. I simply use a prepaid debit card. That way I can't spend more money than I've actually got. What a weird concept, huh? :p

Thanks all for your help, yea Istvan I admit I have no idea how credit card works, I even said it in my first post.

The reason why Im willing to have a credit card is because I joined affiliate programs that require you to have a verifyed paypal account you're absolutely right alexa, i should have mentioned this earler .

I was confused because I thought it was strange that you would be able to store money there without having a credit card linked but apparently you can, it's just some affiliate programs that require it.

Will definately check paypal.ch I did'nt even know they had a .ch website .

In the email paypal sent me they said that :

            • Mastercard
            • Visa
            • Carte Bancaire Nationale
            • Aurore
            • Carte VPay
            • Cofinoga / Privilège
            • Cofidis 4 étoiles
            • American Express

Those are the banks/credit card accepted, but indeed some of those are french companys so im starting to think thats the french support that answered me..makes sense, will contact paypal.ch this time .

Neither did I (or "do I"!) - I was only guessing. But if there is, that'll be a better source of information for you.

A huge proportion of the world's credit-cards are accounted for by Visa and MasterCard (i.e. between the two of them). But thousands of banks, credit-card companies and financial houses are authorised by Visa and/or MasterCard to issue them on their behalf. You don't (normally) get one by applying directly to either Visa or MasterCard. There's an extremely high chance that any credit-card you can realistically apply for - even a prepaid one - will be either Visa or MasterCard (and for your purposes it doesn't matter which).

Just get a debit card connected with your checking account and link it to your PayPal account

It's what Americans call a "current account". An "everyday bank account with a cheque-book". If you have a bank account and can get a debit-card for it, that might do?

        1. Go down to your local Sparkasse and get a Girokonto.

        2. You will receive the account number and the BLZ. This is the bank account you will use to link to PayPal.

        3. Your Girokonto will come with a Visa/MasterCard that is credited based on the balance of your konto. This is the credit card that you will use to link your PayPal account.

    hI,
That's right you need to have a regular source of income to qualify for a credit card. You need to make them sure that you will pay your bill on time without fail. once you get your credit card you can easily link it to your paypal then you never have to fill your credit card details while making purchases online if the vendor have paypal option which normally every vendor have.

I don't have a credit card linked to my Paypal, just a checking account. For the sake of convenience I applied for the Paypal debit card (issued by MC), which allows me to access my Paypal funds whenever I so choose without having to transfer money to my bank. It also gives me a higher daily spending limit than my bank debit card - $3k versus $1k.

You are young, so I would advise learning all you can before acquiring a credit card. They can be a useful tool, but if you don't understand the consequences of using one then stay away. Trust me on this one. Signed someone who has been through the financial wringer more than once.

Don't even go there... you'll just confuse the OP even more

That thingy is ONLY for you, Americans! :p

Neither the OP in Switzerland, nor I in Canada can get one.

Sheesh, Paypal, way to make it hard for the rest of the world

If you can get a debit card to load with money, I think that would be the best bet for you. No need to deal with credit if you don't need it.

It seems the main concern is learning about credit cards. You have read a lot about the different brands for credit cards, but I think what you need is a neutral source for information about credit cards to give you an independent opinion. Why don't you checkout http : / /www . creditcardshelplines . com / This is where I learned a lot about credit cards. It take too much of this space to explain everything, so just take a look at that site to help you out. I hope it can truly help you.
