How To Market A MarketPlace Initially?

I am Kaushik,

I am in the process of making something similar to a market place, that needs users initially.

We all want to join marketplaces that are big, so that we can get our business done... but how do we get those initial set of users?


I can think of these ...
  • Offering free advertising credits (to an empty marketplace .. LOL)
  • PPC like Adwords (i am not sure i can use this .. because the marketplace is joint with a search engine that will compete the big guys, so it might be against their TOS)
  • There are some options that will make it go viral, especially because people can earn money...
  • Banner Ads and Other Media Buying Techniques...
  • Maybe a WSO, offering a coupon to get bonus credits...
  • A press release at the start...

I want answers to these questions..
  • Are there any good books or courses specific to marketing a marketplace or something similar? Maybe a WSO?
  • How to they do it at the start? How to Kick-start?
  • How much do i need to spend on marketing to get some 10k users initial users? Any Guesses?
  • How do i find JV partners OR Investors once this gets big? (I did arrange for a good budget, because some 'big guys' (well, not so big) are funding this, but who knows if we run of of cash, then we need to find someone)

Any help would be appreciated friends.. the coding and stuff will be complete in 2 months or so ... so i need to figure how to do it before that..
