What is an easy to use backup plugin for a Wordpress website?

Hi guys,

I am still very basic in my computer know-how, and I need the easiest possible backup process to backup my Wordpress websites. I have tried several resources and not been happy with any of them.

Do you have any ideas on a good, simple to understand and use, Wordpress backup plugin?

Thanks in advance!
Ruth

If you're a DropBox user (free service), I found a plugin last weekend through WordPress that will backup your WP site into your DropBox account. It's very handy.

Thank-you for this information. I was also looking for suitable easy ways to backup my wordpress blog along with how and which RSS feed plugins are the best to use and install with a Wordpress blog.

I will definately try out the dropbox option. At least this is one thing I will be able to tick off my list as a job well done thanks to your recommendation!

Dropbox does sound like a good thing to have with other things as well. It sounds useful. I am going to check it out further. Thanks for the tip!

I downloaded the Dropbox, but, sadly, the plugin has not been updated to be compatible with the latest version of Wordpress. So I am going to keep looking...

      Hi realnetworker,

I have just downloaded and installed this plugin on my site and it works like a charm. My site is fully up to date with the latest version of WP too.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work. I've got about 10 WP sites, some are updated to the most current WP installation and I've left some of them in older installs...the DropBox thing works just fine on the most current installation. No bugs at all!

I use WordPress Database Backup and had no problems so far - I get a database backup email once a day

You can get more info at WordPress Database Backup – Austin Matzko's Blog
or just install it directly to your WP site

Just a short note here. As I mentioned earlier, I have installed and tested WPMaxBackup plugin, and I have no axe to grind either way. It was easy to install, set up, and executed full site backups both manually and automatically flalessly.

Since I have several WP sites, and have experienced both database and site corruption from time to time in the past, it was important to find a solution that could backup the entire site, not just the DB. Had I known about Matt at kettlewell earlier it looks like there are more options than I was aware of. Looks like Matt could be a good WP resource.

In any case, I'll continue to test the effectiveness of WPMaxBackup over the next couple months, and if all goes well, I think I can get rid of my human for my site backups.

Is it necessary to use these plugins if you do a backup of your entire sites in your hosting cPanel?

I asked HostGator support if they can restore sites individually if a WordPress update causes a problem to one specific site and they told me yes they can.
