Well, my site has been down almost 9 hours with no sign of coming back up. Godaddy did a migration to another server and the process got screwed up and is painfully slow. I didn't ask for this migration and they make it sound like, "Yeah, this is normal..."

Anyway, someone help me!

What are the big name companies with ultrareliable hosting services? I don't mind paying more.

I just want my site to stay up...

I hate to say this Why9999, but Godaddy is almost as reliable as they come. The only other option is to host your site on your own server. It will cost you a good chunk of change to buy a server, but at least you have control over the hosting.

Hostgator is most likely one of the popular sites and services. There are others, but when I call hostgator for help, they are always available and willing to help. They never rush you off the phone.

Thx. But have you guys ever gone through a migration with them?

I can see a site maybe being down for an hour while they migrate, but Godaddy having me down for 12+ hours is ridiculous imo!

I've been reading review of hostgator actually and it looks like they have all of this much more under control??

Yes it won't take long to get your website setup on you new hostgator account but whenever you change your nameservers it can take anywhere from an hour to days to propagate everywhere on earth. So it's always best to keep both versions (old and new) up for a day or two before you get rid of your old web hosting account when changing your nameservers.

I've used both Godaddy and Hostgator. Hostgator is by far better than Godaddy IMO. I've also used big name services like Liquidweb. But you'll be paying alot more. Liquidweb is by far the best host I've ever dealt with. But again, I have a dedicated server there and pay close to $500 a month for my company's site.

Thx for the tip on hostgator guys! I'm definitely moving as soon as I can get time for it. My site is just starting to rank quite well and this is going to hammer with Google I am sure. They caused me problems a few months ago where they changed a security setting without telling me!

Anyway, does hostgator have pretty good third party tools for free, like forums, etc.?

I use Rackspace they are the bomb I can't say enough about how great they are. However it is root control and there is no cpanel.

I've had to call GoDaddy several times lately but for issues that I created not ones they caused.
I have to say they've been very responsive.

I completely agree. They answer their phones. But this is actually the 2nd time I have had a migrations be VERY slow.

My site is getting big enough to where I cannot afford this kind of thing any more.

And what really galls me is that they act like it's no big deal. I asked the CSR, "What site do you know that is down for 6, 12 or 24 hours?" She said, "All of them." That really pissed me off, but it showed how Godaddy thinks.

I use GoDaddy, HostGator and NameCheap...

With GoDaddy I have some domains, and I use their Hosting because I have a WP Plugin of which Cron Jobs don't work with HostGator so I use GoDaddy Hosting just so that I can execute the cronjob.

My Main Hosting is with HostGator and Domain Name with NameCheap

see one of my Posts for more info on Why to choose HostGator and NameCheap

1st of all I would highly discourage you from even buying domains at GoDaddy. This is something Mike Filsaime and I have been telling people since 2006. They will take over your domain if you ever get a spam complaint (which happens when you have affiliates and traffic), and it's a bear to get it back.

We'd get the standard, "Oh that would never happen to me." response until numerous friends experienced the same fate we had warned them about, then we'd get their call asking who we recommended using again...and to get some tips on how to get their domain back. Better to be safe than sorry.

Namecheap.com (not an aff url) does not and will not do that so that's where I'd recommend buying domains starting now.

For hosting, I recommend using what I and many other top well known marketers use. GVO Hosting - GVO Opportunity (not an aff url). I've been friends with Joel Therien since '06 and he understands the IM space, and his team is always super responsive and helpful.

PS - Think this is my first post/visit here in a while. "Hi!" to my long time Warrior Friends. Hope all is well!

      Scary! Thx for the info.

But can I ask why do you recommend Namecheap over Hostgator out of curiosity?

I haven't read a single bad thing (yet) about Hostgator and it looks like they put reliability at the top of their priorities.

Godaddy is the world's worst hosting with the world's worst hosting support. Hostgator or Hostmonster are the way to go.

if its any help i have a number of VPS accounts with Servint.com. If you include the VPS accounts i have purchased on behalf of my clients you would be looking at around 10 in total.

I have been with them around 7 years now and highly recommend them. Excellent uptime, excellant tech support - my entire business revolves around having a solid and secure web hosting platform, without it i would be out of business, having my hosting with a reliable company like Servint and taking additional measures to harden my servers it ensure i can sleep at night much more easily than worrying if i am going to wake up with 200+ angry clients complaining their sites are down!

I recommend Namecheap over GoDaddy for purchasing your domain, and GVO Hosting over Hostgator just because I have a personal relationship with the owner of GVO and he and his team have exceeded my expectations over the years. Plus, many top IM'ers know Joel Therien (GVO Owner) well and use his services. Super fast response from any support issues.

If anyone on here is the type of person who wants a VPS with root control and doesn't care for cpanel, take a look at linode.com

I currently have 4 linodes and the first one I bought has been up for 561 days. They have never had a single network event since I've been with them. This cannot be said of AWS, godaddy, hostgator, mediatemple, or hostmonster.

In order of reliability, this is my experience (best to worst): Linode, hostmonster, hostgator, mediatemple, godaddy, AWS.

As far as shared hosting, I would say my best experience was with hostmonster. They are miles ahead of godaddy as far as reliability and ease of use and are still at an amazingly low price.
