Do You View Yourself As An "Internet Marketer" or an "Entrepreneur" or something else?

Warriors,

Out of sheer curiosity, what do you view yourself as? An IMer? An Entrepreneur? An Infopreneur? All of the above? Or some other word?

Just wondering. I view myself, first and foremost, as an entrepreneur who happens to use Internet Marketing as one way of making money.

I know I am a good IM , but the way I look at it, it is only a way to go through it to be entrepreneur.

I believe entrepreneur should understand, IM but not doing it himself. Because time = money

I vote for entrepreneur, mainly because I work with both online marketing and offline consulting (and sometimes hands on repair). The economy is tight, so I go where ever the money trail leads.

Me personally I'd say I view myself more internet marketer... Although a few of my friends have called me a Entrepreneur

I am a marketer. One who happens to use the internet to apply his craft. But if someone showed up tomorrow and asked me to do an offline campaign, guess what? I would jump all over it.

I love promotion. I love crunching numbers. Nothing makes me more happy than to see a campaign that is profitable.

I'm addicted to this **** man. Not to channel my inner "Dude," but for reals I love this stuff. I love it! lol. When I see a ranking on page one I get excited. When I think about breaking into a new niche I get the butterfly's in my stomach.

Whether you slap the word mail order, internet, e-commerce, mobile, or facebook in front of marketing the bottom line is that I am a marketer. I am proud to be a natural salesmen. I am proud of the fact that I created something outta nothing. So yeah, I must be something else, because I ain't just an internet marketer.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Ultimately, It really depends on how you go about running your business. Marketing is involved in every business but that doesn't necessarily mean the person who runs the business is a Marketer. If you tend to outsource most of your tasks then to a certain degree your more of an entrepreneur as your taking risks and combining resources. Whereas if your running everything solely, your more likely to be considered as an Internet Marketer due to the fact the majority of your time spent will be used in Monetizing which without a doubt involves persuasion.

Personally, I would say I am entrepreneur as I believe being jack of all trades and Master of none limits you in many ways.

I view myself as both an entrepreneur and an internet marketer. I view myself as an internet marketer more often because most of my business is done online, though both terms apply to me.

I'm a businessman. I own and operate a business. I've done this for over 25 years.

I'm also an entrepreneur. I locate new markets and start new business efforts frequently, often at great risk. I've done this for over 20 years.

For the past 15 years or so, the internet has been the main place I operate my business efforts.

And for 10 years, I've focused on marketing as the single greatest deficiency of my business.

But it's only in the past 5 years that I've really tried to make marketing on the internet my primary income, and only for the past two years has my focus been on "internet marketing" as we know it.

My IM career is a tiny, tiny part of my professional identity. Less than 10% of it, historically. Kind of like James points out he's been lurking since 2006... even though he's been registered and posting here less time than I have, he's been reading here about twice as long. Don't mistake someone's Warrior Forum history for all of their history.

I'd consider myself both. Since I did most of my entrepreneurial work on my own, I learned how to market pretty well. Now I run my own business and do internet marketing work for other people. I'm also employed full time as an in-house SEO.

So basically my job is trying to make as much money as I can.

That's actually a tough question to answer...I believe I'm an entrepreneur, a good IM, but I also wear many other hats such as being a Designer, a Developer (Web & Mobile), 3D & Motion Graphics Artist.

Long story short, above are the reasons why I decided on "Something Else".

If interested, please feel free to check out my site I just put together for Jesse Sbicca's Traffic Parthenon which is also mobile enabled for iOS and Android.

    Traffic Parthenon System

I'm currently rendering out some animated bumpers from Cinema4D and then have to run them through After Effects for some compositing, but I'll be sure to post links on my profile when done so anyone who wants can check'em out.

    Feedback welcome!

Great thread Rod, as per usual for you...

And there's a ton of super-important insights in this thread.

For me... I used to think of myself as an internet marketer...

Then I learned about what it really takes to be a successful businessperson.

Now I consider myself an entrepreneur... who just happens to leverage the internet to achieve my goals.

Because regardless of what method you use... business is business. The principles don't change... only the medium.

The internet is not a business, it's simply an advertising mechanism.

If you have a company and most of your business comes from Radio Ads, would you call yourself a Radio Marketer?

    I'm an Internet infopreneur.

I drafted this as part of an email to my list:

To me, "infopreneur" is a term that better describes
what I do - and what I'd love to teach you to do.

    * Identify problems that people want solved
    * Create or source solutions for their needs
    * Provide information to help them

... and profit fairly from the process of helping,
guiding and leading people towards their goals and
dreams, or away from their pain and suffering.

    All success

While Dr. Mani's "infopreneur" would fit, I'm with Big Mike and just call myself a businessman.

Marketing, Internet or otherwise, is just one facet on the jewel. It may be the facet that the others play off of, but by itself it's just a flat surface on a rock...
