Your Most Highly Recommended IM Book To Read ?

Hi

Just wondering what is the best book your reading at the moment to help your marketing efforts.

Trying to add to my growing bookshelf collection, and thought it would help other warriors at the same time.

The books can be on .....

Internet Marketing..

Offling marketing

Joint Venture...

Self Help / Personal..

I guess as long as it has to do with marketing, or making money!

Here are my favourites...

Awaken The Giant Within - by Anthony Robbins

The E-myth - by Michael E. Gerber

The 4 Hour Workweek - By Tim Ferris

So what are your favourites??

Right Now I am finishing up "Retire Young, Retire Rich" by Robert Kyosaki. There a ton of mindset thought that will really help you understand how the poor get poorer and the rich get richer.

    Very Insightful.

You know what? I'd rather not flood this thread with a pile of books just yet... pretty much everything you need can be figured out using some common sense.

... dig around for some good marketers... model them... and figure out what you need as you go along. This will help you far more than just downloading gigs of stuff you don't need at the moment!

Once you have the basics down, I'd highly recommend getting a mentor to help you focus and learn what you need to work on

    Those book are good, conceptually.

If you want down and dirty marketing, I highly recommend any Dan Kennedy book. Although he isn't known for IM, most of what IMers do comes from the likes of him.

for me, Jeremy Palmer's High Performance Affiliate Marketing has been probably the most helpful (well, and one of the first) books that I read on IM since it basically got me into it in 2006. he gives it away free now btw.

Yes... as I mentioned in my post earlier, most of this stuff is as simple as modeling what successful people are DOING. Not what they are saying...

And no, this is not about having hyped up sales pages and crap products - I don't consider them "successful".

When I say successful, I mean internet marketers like Eben Pagan, Rich Schefren, and a few others who aren't as well known... but know what they're talking about nonetheless.

I love Rich Woman by Roberty Kywosakis wife. It was very inspirational to me. I also enjoyed the 4 hour work week although I found the tone of the book to be a bit cocky!

I feel like sharing with you the books that I've read that I think can help you stay motivated and enjoy your time even if you are not making money right away.

      1. Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill - written in the 1930s, this is a piece of gold even today (and will be, because it includes basic principles applicable at any time), the author dedicated his life to studying what makes people succeed and he had personal contact with people like H. Ford, Rockefeller, A. Carnegie, etc. He came to a conclusion that what determines whether or not one succeeds is the way one thinks - and I'm a proponent of this philosophy.

      2. The Art Of SEO - I've read this about half a year ago and it taught some things I hadn't known before - for example, how to use the search operators properly to get my own lists of sites to create my links on, etc.

      3. Cashvertising by Drew Eric Whitman

      4. Commonsense Direct & Digital Marketing by Drayton Bird - Explains in great detail how to approach your customers, whether your business is online- or offline-based.

Hopefully this list will be of some use to at least some of you

This might sound somewhat far-out but since you mention self-help books... I have been re-reading Nothing Special: Living Zen by Charlotte Joko Beck recently. Really great book just for helping get your mind focused, putting away distractions and seeing what is important. At least, that is how it helps me. She does advise on practicing zazen meditation too... might not be for everyone but you can still learn just by reading the book.

My favorite books that really caused a shift in thinking for me were:

Small Business Guide To Electronic Business (Tom Antion)---This was actually the first book that kinda exposed me to IM. Tom Antion is a public speaking-type coach and was in attendance at John Reese's traffic secrets seminar back in 2004. Unless it's been updated, it's probably not completely relevant, but the foundation is still solid.

One of the really funny thing about this book is that it's completely littered with affiliate links. But he didn't run them through his own site...they are vendors affiliate links (it's a physical book that you find in bookstores). I have no idea why he wouldn't create shorter URLs that he could change if he needed to. The really funny thing is that I know for a fact that John Reese mentioned at TS seminar that this was a mistake that most people do with their ebooks. ha.

      4 Hour Work Week:

Rich Dad/Poor Dad: First book that got me serious about starting my own business.

The Goal by Eliot Goldratt (i think)---Great book that made me realize what's holding me back in my business.

      E-Myth Revisited

I've re-read 2 classics this months, one reinvigorated me and got my blood going again and the 2nd one turned up my creative juices again. I purchased the updated versions because I wanted to catch the small changes / updates made to them, that's how much I like them:

    1. Unstoppable: 45 Powerful Stories of Perseverance and Triumph from People Just Like You by Cynthia Kersey. When any of my clients feel down or feel overwhelmed, I advise them to read one or two stories from this book each day until they finish all the stories. It's a great paradigm-shifter.

    2. All Marketers are Liars (Tell Stories): The Underground Classic That Explains How Marketing Really Works--and Why Authenticity Is the Best Marketing of All by Seth Godin. Man, I love this book. It really illustrates the power of story telling.

    Happy New Year Y'all!!!!

A book which gave me several "light bulb" moments was "Multiple Streams of Internet Income" by Robert G Allen.

I bought it from Amazon several years ago and some would probably say that it has been superseded now especially with the advent of social media but for not much money I think anyone would find it a very useful buy.

Being as just about everything we need to do revolves around copywriting, I'd suggest making that your focus first up, then once you decide where you're going with this whole IM thing, target in on your chosen subject.

One classic that I've found invaluable is "Who Moved My Cheese?" by Spencer Johnson.
It's all about change and the way you approach your business.

Read the millionaire fastlane, it's a lame name but the book is great. Might not be as much about IM in general as it is about business but you'll get that info enough to put you in the zone.
