Need advice about my e-book idea.

I want to create a e-book about a specific problem. I plan to make a WordPress website for it, and then start promoting the site.

I also plan to not just use the wordpress site for this specific ebook but I would like to use the site also for related products. So I have the opportunity to expand the site later on.

My question is, is it smart to name the domain name to my first e-book?

Let's say I create an ebook about "how to train your dog in 30 days" And I create the site name after the book. But later on I also want to sale an ebook about "how to trim your dog" on the same site. Should I take another site name? Or can I better create a second site for the second book? Or is can I just link to my www.howtotrainadogin30days.com site even when I'm selling a book called "how to trim your dog"?

I'm far from getting even started with it, but choosing the right domain name is something I will do first, and I want to do that right, and not have to start over after failling at it.

  • Hi letsgetstarted,

Google regularly changes their SEO bonuses for EMDs (exact match domains). Also, I for one wouldn't build the foundations of my livelihood around the whims of a multi billion dollar corporation with a closely guarded, frequently changed and constantly improved secret algorithm...

In my opinion, I'd go with a domain name that can grab the attention of my target audience, something they can easily remember and easily type...

For instance, dogcarecenter.com would be good for me, since it instantly communicates the specific benefits provided by the content of my website - A dog care center. After using the Google Keyword Tool, here's a keyword included in exact match keyword search results for dog care:

Exact Match Keyword | 30 Days | 90 Days (Average)
    dog whisperer | 74000 | 33100

So, dogwhisperer.com would be good, though I don't know if it's available, and I still prefer dogcarecenter.com, though I also don't know if this is available, but that's just me...

write nice ebook, and create a normal landing page or hire someone who will create it for $100 or may be less. promote it using clickbank and using other networks.

Use something brandable. Like for example if you call your first book "dog training miracle" and your second book "dog trimming miracle" or whatever you could have a domain name that is something related to the miracle theme.

Don't worry about keywords for your brand name domain. Worry about what's best for your products and what's best for your customers. Build a brand that is easy to remember, easy to recognize and will make the people who bought and loved your first book instantly bond with the second one when it comes out - because they already know your series is great. So they will not need a lot of convincing to buy the next one!

If you want to sell multiple products in the same niche go for a generalised domain in the niche. But a exact domain will be great for this product.

It depends... Do you only want to sell that ebook or a series of similar ones? If that's the case then you may want a broader and easier to remember domain name... Like: dogtrainingsecrets.com or something.

Ok. Thanks so far. I also thought about, publishing the content on the site itself, and then monetize it with affiliate links. I think publishing the content for free will attract more visitors, and may be a more loyal "fanbase". But cause I'm a newbie I wonder what will make me the most profit, selling it as e-book, or for free on site with affiliate links?

I don't know what is harder to achieve.

I would focus the domain for the niche you are in and then create a sub-domain for each ebook you plan on creating. Use your blog as a "fly-catcher", get people interested in the content you write, keep them informed of whats going on in your niche, etc... capture their email address and market your books to them.

I agree with most of the other posters, try creating something more general and then have different pages and ebooks for all the topics that you want to branch off to.

Stay with a general name. You may then branch off to other topics by using e-books and different pages. A broader and easier to remember domain name will certainly be beneficial.
