It's not the idea, it's the implementation of that idea

I develop android apps, so I get this all the time that somebody will walk up to me and say - hey, I have an idea of an awesome app and if you do implement it then I will get 25%.

Before I even listen to that idea, I tell them...sorry I am not interested because I already have that idea and even more, and then they get offended by that.

Some people really think that the power is in the idea (I believed the same thing when I was 12). I have to tell them that it's not the idea, it's the implementation of that idea that get's things done.

I gurantee that if I stop anybody on the street and talk to them for few minutes then I will get three really really good ideas - everybody has ideas. They don't get you anywhere. What gets you somewhere is if (and how) you implement it.

I think the equation goes like this- Everybody has ideas, but 1 in 10,000 people actually try to implement the idea, and 1 in a million is successful in implementing it.

So, to everybody - unless you mix and idea with action it's not going to get you anywhere - yes, there are exceptions (but they are just that, exceptions), and happen to 1 in a billion where only the idea made you successful.

I'm sure everyone's literally had a million dollar idea... the problem is, most people aren't willing to bring it to fruition. It can be a limiting mindset, no motivation to do it, whatever.

I've heard this quote before and it really resonated with me:

"Poor people have big TV's... Rich people have big libraries."

Kudos to whoever thought of it

You're completely right. I know someone who wishes they were a big businessman because he constantly comes up with new business ideas but then never does anything about them. Eventually he had to go back to a 9-5 job because he never actually went through with any of his ideas.

A person's idea is always in his mind and will remain an idea if not manifested in action. We can set our dream like having our own car, but the question that follows would be, in what way would you do to acquire that car of your dream? Simply, put that idea from your mind into real action to attain that dream of yours. An idea will always be an idea, and an idea will never exist in reality if we will not work for it. Implementing the idea is not that easy, but at least we have to start from something rather than give up right from the start. The dream car that we have in our mind will always remain in our mind.
Let's start to put that idea into action.

I remember a similar point made on a blog I follow. The blogger specifically talked about books, and how he had experienced people being shocked with how small a percentage they were offered in commisions from publishers willing to publish their work. I don't know much about this, but from what I understand, it can be as little as 10%.

He basically said, that ideas are worth squat, when it comes to succeeding, and according to him, the real "secret" is the hard work and/or money that is put in to implementing and marketing an idea. Not the idea itself.

I agree with the OP, but it is easy to be confused about how much the idea really matters, as it seems like idea itself is the foundation of anything successful.
