What Is Going On With Google?

Ok, this morning when I'm clicking on a site that comes up in Google search results, I'm getting redirects to parking pages, yellow page ads, and other sites that relate to the site that should come up!

WTF! This is super annoying! I'm seeing some ad network briefly in my address bar before the redirect automatically happens.

For example, I wanted to click on an Online Dating article and after clicking the link, I instead get an automatic redirect to E-Harmony. When I click the link again, I get the right site. It's just the first click that is sending me to the wrong site. Is this something new with Google. Because this would kill traffic and conversions if it is.

Or... do I have a virus or something? Anyone else experiencing this?

Maybe the website isn't available in your country

No, this is even happening with my OWN website. Just tried it again and I'm still getting redirects to other sites on first click.

Try doing a Google search and clicking on various links that come up. I tried Yahoo and everything is fine over there. Hopefully, it's just me.

      It is spyware/adware.

Sometimes a virus checker will catch it and delete it, sometimes you'll need to completely uninstall your browser & reinstall.

But no, it is not Google going crazy.

It sounds like you have a virus on your computer. This happened to me recently when every time I did a search I was redirected to shopping sites etc. I ended up resetting my computer to an earlier time frame and that worked to get rid of it.

Did a complate scan using Avast and did it again using "Advanced System Protector", it found Spyware and I deleted it. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and the problem is still there when I click on links in Google Search Results.

    Damn this thing is annoying!

      Hi Christophe,

I had that **** about a year ago. I ran all of the top spyware and antivirus programs to no avail.

In the end I resorted to bleeping computer and combofix.

You're advised to use their forum, ask for help, then follow their instructions and report back with the reports from the software (see the table of contents part 4 via second link above). They seem like a great bunch of helpful people.

I decided to risk using combofix by myself and I believe it solved the problem, although I *think* I also downloaded and ran a software designed to eradicate the specific virus I had.

      Hope this helps.

I would also say you have some form of malware or spyware... Nasty ones can cause really big problems my suggestion is to use malwarebytes... it is free and not a trial ware type thing... It has helped me many times over the years...

This is not a plug for the company (no aff links either) you can get it from download dot com....

a cnet web site... reputable ... saved my butt a bunch of times.

I didn't finish reading the threads but it sounds like you have the TS redirect virus. Check for TSSKiller if you haven't already. It's a nasty one and sometimes requires a full reformat :-(

Wow, I went over there and a ton of people are having the same problem. Must be some sort of new virus. I posted my issue and hopefully they'll be able to take care of it.

I had the same problem - my sites were hacked and redirected. I went to the host, didn't totally fix the problem, the problem came back. I went to Microsoft, didn't totally fix the problem. I went to Comodo, they fixed the problem. Good Luck!

You have the Google redirect virus. It affects your browser and also your hosts file. I had the same thing earlier in the year and man its a pain in a$$!

Man I wish you the best of luck in removing. If you let me know what you're running I might be able to help you fix it.

    I need more symptoms.

Here's what you need to do: go download one of those desktop packet sniffers, and run it while you are online. Then take the file the packet sniffer creates, and put an uploadable link here so I can examine what is going on and figure out what you're infected with.

Ouch. Had to fix something like that on my husband's computer last year, and it took a complete reformat. I hope you have better luck than I did. Thank goodness I had an adequately current backup of his data.

        Hi,

I had this experience. Was really frustrating.

What's happening is coming from your browser and nothing to do with Google.

Even if you installed and uninstalled FireFox, you won't solve the issue. Most probably the problem lies at the sort of plugins and add-ons that you installed in your browser.

Such plugins often come along with Proxy and SEO plugins.

Disable all plugins as well as reset your browser options and properties. Close your Browser. Wait a few minutes and launch it again. Then test your Google Search again. The problem should go away.

If it is still happening, then there is a malware sticking itself to your browser from somewhere hidden in your PC. The malware launches itself every time you launch your browser.

Try using MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and Trojan Remover. Many branded AV were not able to discover what they discovered.

These 2 free tools have saved me in a number of occasions.

Christopher, I have had this issue for 4 days now. Based on azmanar's comment, I went to CNet and downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware trial edition. THANKS, AZMANAR!

I did a complete scan. It found a trojan called Trojan BHO in a registry key, something labeled HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\fsharproj

The issue seems to be gone now. I can pull this site up on both IE and Firefox on the first try. As you noticed, Yahoo searches are not affected, only Google searches.

Bitdefender trial version kept alerting me to the blocking of viruses, several times a day, far more than Microsoft Security Essentials did, but it's scan revealed nothing.

Iobit Malware fighter and Advanced System Care 4 free version both did not catch this.

Microsoft Security Essentials has been deactivated since I downloaded the trial version of Bit Defender about a week ago, so I can't comment on how it would have performed.

I had tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox. Didn't fix the issue.
Malwarebytes did. On a side note, when I reinstalled Firefox, I went with the version 5 beta , and all of my bookmarks have disappeared. Perhaps I don't have it configured correctly, but this never happened in the previous versions.

      Yup.

Most of the malware and virus developers exploit our TYPICAL HABITS.

It is not that our habits are bad, it is just that we're so predictable. So they deceive us based on that predictability.

To break that chain, we ought to be AWARE of their deceptions and take preventive actions.

Even so, they could still attack us. Therefore, knowing some corrective steps would definitely help.

---------- This is partly relevant and could be useful ----------
As most of us here use WordPress for our IM activities, we ought to have a basic idea about it's security and how to take corrective measures in case of an attack. I've written an article as reference ... here's the WF Blog link. I could be wrong. It is up to you to correct me.

It looks like that did it! Thanks!

I just tried doing some Google searches and I'm not getting redirects. Hope it stays normal now.

Funny, I didn't know I had so many plugins and add ons in Firefox that I don't use. I got rid of most of them. One of them probably had this pain in the ass Malware.

You know, whoever the shady affiliates are who are doing this... they must be really killing it because these redirects were going to sites that are very targeted to my searches and I'm sure a lot of folks who don't know any better are helping these dirty aff's conversions.

Pretty brilliant little piece of Malware, but totally dirty and not something I would ever do.

haha ... Happy for you. Glad to to hear you resolved the issue.

More often than not, the culprits came from free software, proxy and CPA
offers, which we have totally forgotten about.
